MP3s should have a similar effect to home cassette recordings in the 70s and 80s. If people like what they record / download, they will normally go and buy it, if it is reasonably priced and packaged. However, CDs are overpriced and genrally have shitty packaging. The music industry would be in better shape if record companies would release recordings by new TALENTED artists. The main reason that CD sales have fallen so markedly is because record companies keep pushing talentless morons, most of whom can't sing in tune without the help of the Antares Auto-tune and a big wedge of coke up their nose. If record companies were run by people with the septum in their noses still intact, they might have noticed how sh*** their new releases are. The only other material is re-re-re-releases of older stuff, most of which the listening public already own (on vinyl for example).
