Little Tin Box
NEWS   Music Reviews -- 3/10/04

Artist: Bill Heeter
Song: All I'm Asking
Genre: Blues

Music-- This song fits it's genre like a glove. I think it's probably my own personal opinion but I felt the song a little on the dry side. The performance is solid, but it feels like there's something missing from the element as a whole. My experiance with blues is that I should feel a mild depression fall me as I'm listening to this song. However, the lead vox to me seems to be more excited that he's singing, rather then conveying the emotion that he's singing about. Then again, in a recording it is really hard to capture the element of emotion. this was just an observation I've noticed.

Lyrics-- These lyrics are very basic. Very indicitive of the 70's and 80's standards in song writing. They make me feel like the writer has the impression that he can write something without having to share any of his own personal feelings. I've started to write reviews to discourage that, because our music today is just so full of false pretensions and delusions that this standard is placed on our culture that emotions are fake.

Production-- I wasn't fond of the cymbal crashes, I felt like maby they needed more sustain in them. The live feeling in a studio recording doesn't sit well with me either. Perhaps putting an audience in the mix will help cover that a little. The audience may help with other things too, like I may feel more if there is some sort of response present.

Enerchy--

Ok, so here I am wasting my time thinking about you when you haven't submitted anything thing to me. My personal opinions of people who don't provide me with a song, or a link, or genre information is this: You are too full of yourself, you think that your name alone is going to make me check you out. You are not educated about music, you don't know where your music should be classified under. You have no materials to submit.

If you fall into any of these catagories, then perhaps maby submitting for reviews is not a good idea. I could give you the benifit of the doubt and say that you were just too lazy, but I wont this time because telling people they're being lazy isn't working.

Artist: Cozzy
Name of Song: Trippin'
Genre: Alternative Hip-Hop

Musical -- The music is centered around a rap. Extreeme loop based music with nothing really happening in the music itself.

Lyrically -- Sometimes the things you say really interest me, then other things just kind of irritate me. My question to you, is when are you going to say something that makes some sense? Some truth about our lives, or some truth about yourself. I like rap so this is definately my question to you and not the genre as a whole. I mean, I get slim shady, he's got a ton of personal songs about his life, he's got some bulls=== ones too. Maby you should submit another tune to me so I can better judge your antics, but right now all's I've heard is what I've heard from every other rapper on the scene, and thats: "I'm the baddest"... Doesn't that get boaring after a while, writing about your ego?

production-- I think the vox is way too far forward. I would've liked to hear more of the accompanyment, if there was any to hear....

Follow directions. Also, if your writing sh== and not music, perhaps maby you should flush it instead of showing it to everyone. I didn't check your friend out either. IF you want me to honestly hear your music, you'll make an honest submission.

Your going to be waiting for a really long time. You -also- need to figure out how to follow directions. I realize that this may be a repeated process for me, but I'm not changing my tune, even if that means my whole review cycle get's wasted writing nothing but "follow Directions" to every submitter. If you can't research your reviewer, then why do you even care what I have to say?

Artist: Station For Imitation
Song: 'one hundred times more'
genre: trip hop

Music: Perhaps maby this song would be better suited under electronica. When I think Trip Hop I think of Live, Reverberated insturments with a Hip Hop, almost Rap undertone. This had a very Dance orientated rythim, wich is why I question the desicion for genre placement. I've never heard a hip hop song with a 4 on the floor kick. I liked your break down, even if it seemed to last a little longer then I figured it would. This song would be really cool with a female vocalizing over it. She doesn't need to say anything, just having that element would really make this record stronger.

lyrics-- None applied, maby none needed. I go back and forth about it, it needs something more, but I couldn't say what.

production--- Put some more reverb on the cello, and get rid of the crashes, because they cut off to soon and make this song a little sour. Maby if you delay the crashes it'll change my mind.

Artist: Rey Varela
Song: "I Know"

Music: What genre is this? I don't know, you wouldn't tell me!@ Musically I would have to say you've got your act really together. A great acoustic song with alot of emotion. I hear your voice straining to get the words out, like it's hard for you to talk about the music. That is a great example of what I wanted with Bill Heeter.

Lyrics-- A very personal song, I really can't say anything bad about it. I got the message. I understood, and I was a little saddened by it even. Great execution!

Produciton-- What is really wonderfull about this song is the audience you put in it. Interaction is such an important thing in creating the illusion of emotion in music. You really pulled it off here. Simplistically even. You are definately a master of your craft.

Little Tin Box is an Electronica outfit consisting of Charles and Kelly Sadler. Formed in December 2001, the duo has made two albums albums and several singles on mp3.con. Since mp3.con's demise Little Tin Box has been carefully looking for a new place to house their mp3's. Soundclick came with high recommendation.
Why this name?
It's hard to explain how we came up with the name. It was a brainstorm and it just kind of came out and it fit.
Do you play live?
Yes, We play in the Twin Cities metro area. Playing for our fans is the vehicle for us to continue to write music despite the obsticles we face
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The .mp3 technology opens the market to unsigned bands. This is good because it is gettting harder and harder for the major labels to tell the general public what to buy. At the same time it gives the industry a bad rep because now the posibility for bad music is greatly increased.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I find it hard to beleave that any act would make the consious decision to reject that kind of exposure if it were offered to them. To us music is about reachibg out to people and moving them in ways that isn't possible through standard communication lines. The opprotunity to reach farther then we could fathom is a dream we hope to accomplish some dayl.

Anything else...?
One of the most interesting things about our albums is that they are themed. "Object~Subject" is part one of a trilogy called "The Event Trilogy". The album is about contemplation and sets the scene for "Action Music" wich is about taking action. The third album, currently in development, is about consequence.
