Having been described as a cross between Incubus, Silverchair, Hoobastank and Matthew Good, all the way to Tool and System of a Down, Detour is one of the few bands in BC who really have a sound all their own. Detour's debut LP "The Road Less Travelled" has had three radio singles that have been getting regular rotation on stations across Canada. To follow up that release, Detour has released a new four-song Demo EP, included in this package for your listening pleasure. Detour is planning a music video for their cross-canada radio hit "Over/Under" this fall, as well as stepping into Greenhouse Studios w/ Todd Kerns & Juice of Juicemix Productions to record their follow-up album in January '04.
Why this name?
Just said it in a sentance. Sort of a fluke. We are thinking of changing it soon.
Do you play live?
We play all around North America. Special moments? Our first tour and our first CD.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows indie bands to share their music with the world like never before.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if it was the right kind of contract.
Band History:

It all started the summer of 2002. Paul, Craig, and Andy had just left their previous bands and were looking for a new style and sound. Craig and Paul met through friends and exchanged numbers. The three met up one night at Andy’s basement. Tyler also attended, not knowing that this would be the first "official" practice of Detour. Once the four started jamming and putting their sound together they knew there was chemistry. The four got two songs and a new dream out of that practice. Detour was born but without a bass player for the time being. Andy and Craig put their heads together and came up with bringing their old bass player from their old band “Hotshot”. Laura was in the band, for the time being.
The five practiced the whole summer having almost 3 to 4 practices a week. Through these two months they tried to find the “Detour” sound. Getting influenced by bands from the likes of Incubus, all the way to System Of A Down, the five each had unique styles of playing. Their influences ranged from classic rock and blues, to punk and modern alternative music. To finish off the summer they played a couple of all-ages shows at a rehearsal studio, to show friends and family what they sounded like. At that point Detour still didn’t have a sound, so what was next for them? Then something hit that many didn’t expect. Laura decided to leave the band for personal reasons. During this unfortunate event detour was in the process of recording there first five song demo, which was recorded in Paul’s studio on a digital 8 track. For the time being without a bassist, Paul’s dad filled in. Still, they didn’t find that the 5 songs they chose best describe the sound of Detour.
The search for a bassist was on. The four auditioned many talented musicians but none of them clicked. Then came Tom, the mystery man. From his first appearance, they thought it would be a long shot for this guy to be in the band, but from the first note he played to his stunning smile, Tom was a part of detour. In the last month, Tyler Chisholm, Detour's former rhythm guitarist and webmaster left the band due to creative differences. Detour now employs the awesome talents of Alan Stokes, Paul's brother, completing the band as it currently is. Detour now plays gigs regularly at clubs and venues such as The Roxy, The Purple Onion and the Brickyard, have been played on CFOX and XFM, college and rock stations around North America, and have received rave reviews various music magazines and e-zines across the nation. With the release of their highly aniticpated 10-song LP "The Road Less Travelled", the next step will be playing tons of shows and festivals over the course of this summer, as well as a cross-BC and Toronto-based tour. Detour will be making a huge impact on the Vancouver Rock Scene over the next year, and will not stop until every single person cannot say the word "Rock", without firstly taking the detour....
Stay tuned for a wild ride.
