Why this name?
Jap Jap came naturally from my name Jasper. Friends have been calling me this for as long as I remember...
Do you play live?
Actually I do play live, but with one of my other talents: VJ-ing. I'm a resident VJ at 3 clubs around Amsterdam. Started this a few years ago for my study "Digital Media Design"
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it's a good thing that unknown artists have a chance to promote their music towards a large public. The more people listen to my music the better, as long as they enjoy what they hear I am satisfied. Appreciation is more important then money...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
As I am searching for a record label I would have to answer "definitely!" I haven't had a chance to send my music to any label, but everyone around me is very positive about the music I create and now and then I get approached for selling my album. I think it is time to show the world what I have in "mind".
Your influences?
I'm really inspired by Warp Records. Artists like Boards of Canada, who have this unique melodic insight.. then there are alot of other names:
Amon Tobin, Mum, Bent, U-Ziq, Plaid, Wagon Christ, Aural Planet, Neotropic, the Herbaliser.. should I continue...?
