First Friday began when songwriter/singer/guitarist Ben Rathbun joined up with bassit Yari Sigal, drummer Will Rafelson, and guitarist Max Glantzman to write some catchy rock songs and provide an alternative to a music scene dominated by jam bands at Brandeis University.
Why this name?
The band name comes from an after school event in fourth or fifth grade that happened on the first friday of every month.
Do you play live?
We mostly play live in Waltham, MA, but would like to play everywhere. We were very honored to play ModFest at Brandeis University in front of over 700 people.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes the whole system more democratic. Artists have more direct access to their fans/potential fans and vice versa. The quality of music will increase when everyone has equal access to listeners.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most likely.
Your influences?
We like catchy rock music. We are influences by many things, but combine a love of 90's rock such as Better Than Ezra, Oasis, and the Gin Blossoms, with a love of classic rock such as Neil Young, and influences from punk and emo as well.
