My name is E-Quell. I'm a lyricist, an emcee. All about hip hop and elevating it, doing new things. I try to write on another level, I consider my lyrics' complexity, personalness (is that a word?) and depth the reason my music is unique. A lot of my work is produced by Delux, check him out he's on soundclick here also. Thank you for checking me out. Oh yeah, hit up my crew Ill Mic Aphyliates, IMA at http://imapresents.com

Why this name?
Well, E is the first letter of my first name, equal....the idea of the balance is what my life is philosophically based on, and finally the idea that I quell things...like doubts....mcs....odds....all this came together for me to get my mystical magical name....E-Quell...hahaha
Do you play live?
Yes I do, I have upcoming shows with other artists coming up in Augusta GA, Savannah GA, Atlanta GA, Athens GA, Fairfax VA and I plan on doing some shows in CA in the farther future. I'll keep yall posted.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it allows a plethora of artists to get out their musical expressions to a world wide audience, who normally wouldnt be able to...and allows for successful private industry...I don't ever plan on getting signed to any big labels...because I don't want any influence on my art, and I'm not too interested in the money and the corporate system. I think the internet is an easy way of promotion to the biggest audience; the world, and it allows for a more pure distribution of the art of emceeing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No....not unless I had some god sent contract....like a good percentage of the profits and complete control and ownership of my music, and a term of contract that I determine...but even then I don't do it for the money and I dislike commercial involvement in music....so, No....unless it was a hip hop oriented label, or a smaller indie style label...like Rhymesayers or Quannum.
Band History:
I've just been into hip hop since middle school....got into breakin in high school then I decided I wanted to emcee....felt as though I had some talent...battled people at school and started battling on hip hop forums in audio and as a "textcee" (that real hip hop beotch!). I have been brewing up styles for nearly 4 years and now I'm trying to make somthing of it.
Your influences?
I've listened to every kind of rap and hip hop and rock/rap hip hop fusion....I like uniqueness....I like real shit...people who make you feel it...real emcees with ill and unique skill. My influences are emcees like Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Eyedea, Eligh, Canibus, Chino XL, Nas, Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Eminem, Tech N9ne, Kool G Rap, Rakim, Wu Tang...it goes on...but I'd say my style is pretty unique.
Favorite spot?
Oakland CA...Sacramento CA....Hawaii...can't decide.
Equipment used:
I've got a computer studio, I use Adobe Audition 1.0, and I have an Edirol audio interface and a Shure Audio Recording Condenser mic.
Anything else...?
an open mind is the key life...of course I might be wrong, I'm keepin my mind open for that possibility.
