This progressive punk-metal trio from West Hollywood, CA is currently planning for the release of the band’s new series of collectable value-pack singles with brand new recordings, with Cryogenic due out in Spring 2005. Whether it’s speed on the fret-board, screams or wails, Rusty Eye and help put back the metal back in rock ‘n roll.
Why this name?
The eye is the most important organ of perception. Rust is a state of corrosion and decay. A rusty eye is, then, a corroded, damaged organ that produces a sick and twisted vision...
Because ours is a visual band the name came naturally. Our vision is sick and twisted because it fits nowhere in the crude cultural atmosphere of our hypocritical, prudish society. As we've always said : "If Rusty is what you'll call us, Rusty is what we'll be".
Do you play live?
Indeed! Throughout the years, Rusty Eye has built up a reputation of delivering an excellent multi-media live show (furious music, impressive video projections at every show, bizarre and memorable set design).
We play live anywhere, anytime and believe there is no better evidence of being alive than when we're on stage abusing our instruments and screaming our lungs out! For us, every moment on stage is an event.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We believe that mp3 technology has influenced the way we concieve music: In one hand, it is quite favorable for unsigned bands, out of print albums, long forgotten records and artists. On the other hand, people tend to use it in an unethical way (downloading the latest releases) and they evidently damage the industry. We believe that free music is great for promotional use, but people should give artists their dues for providing them with hours and hours of enjoyment and happiness.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Indeed, we are aware of the balance between commerce and art, and believe commercial success (and embracing the marvels of technology) is great because it will allow our music to be available globally. We will continue to produce aggressive, challenging music. Spreading our message throughout the world, therefore, will never equate "selling out". We believe in artistic freedom as the source of ultimate happiness and know that the challenge of being creatively independent is a gargantuan feat...yet we gladly take arms against the deathtraps of mediocrity by willingly going against conventionalities and artistic stereotypes. Above all, we have faith in and respect for the art of making powerful, exciting and meaningful music.
Band History:
From the headlines of the heavy metal club scene in Mexico City to the famous Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California, Rusty Eye is a band with a vision and message about life - to shed the perceptual rust and blindness about the way we, as humans, interact with one another. Comprised of Mr. Rust (bass and vocals), Miss Randall (drums and vocals)and Reverend Dee (guitar), Rusty Eye is a driving force for the future of hard and heavy rock music, creating quite a following in doing so.
When Mr. Rust founded Rusty Eye, it was a simple junior high jam band thriving off the beating pulse of Iron Maiden, the speed of Motörhead and the Misfits' do-it-yourself approach to the industry. As the band grew in popularity, style and skill, Rusty Eye evolved to become leaders in their own right of the progressive punk/metal movement. After the success of 2001's Rust n' Roll and the numerous line-up changes that followed, Rusty Eye is getting ready to release their long-awaited new offering, Cryogenic, the first of a series of singles to be debuted beginning in Spring 2005.
Each schooled at Hollywood’s Musician’s Institute for a different purpose, Miss Randall honed her producer’s ear in the recording arts program, Rev. Dee is a student in the guitar studies program and Mr. Rust studied the textbooks of rock ‘n roll in the business program. Together, the trio makes for a winning combination of talent, devotion, desire and knowledge.
