Hello Everybody! We're Mazeffect. To sum us up in ten words or less: "Ramones+Replacements+Black Flag=Mazeffect". You kinda get the idea from that. Now if you add on top of that the fact that we are too sarcastic for our own good, and have a knack for annoying audiences, then you start to get a good idea of what we do. So come along, listen to us, and then love us or hate us. We'll still make music anyway. And maybe even attempt to play your town. And convince your sister that "Let It Be" by the Replacements is infinitely better than "Swiss Army Romance" by that dude everyone thinks is dreamy. Yeah, we'll rock on with our bad selves.
Why this name?
I guess people are interested in this...Well, "Maze Effect" was a song by the Groovie Ghoulies that I really liked, because the name had a lot of connotations, as well as prompted alot of imagery, so I took it on as a name for my record label (while in my previous band, that shall remain nameless, because uttering it's name is like bringing down some ancient curse that insures misery had by all involved.) So when said previous band kind of grinded ever so painfully to a halt, I decided to take the label name on as a band name upon forming a new one. Then I was outvoted by the other guys on keeping "Maze Effect" as two words, whereas they wanted it shortened to one, a la "Mazeffect". They won the vote, forever damning us to have our name mispronounced, as well as misspelled on flyers, ads, and marquees. You gotta love democracy. But on the bright side...it is somewhat mysterious looking...or sounding..er...or something...
Do you play live?
"Do you play live?" OH, HELL YEAH!!! C'mon, where else can we play our songs to a roomful of eight people at a high volume without getting in trouble for torturing people, but at a live venue? WHERE ELSE, I ASK YOU...WHERE ELSE?!? "Where?" Anywhere that'll have us, really. Wanna have us? "Do you like it?" Yes, yes...we quite enjoy making audiences squirm for 30 to 45 minutes while they have to endure us to get to hear the band they REALLY came to see play after us. It's almost like getting a gift every time we play a gig. "Any special moments?" Well...every show has it's magical memories, the stuff of Christmas specials on CBS or ABC..but not quite NBC, yet..Like that time Julia Roberts came out to see us play....oh wait..no..that was in that Ramones book I was just reading..oh, nevermind...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It levels the playing field. Cuts out the middle man. Any band or musician can now get their music heard (as well as sell and distribute) their music to millions of people (or eight, as in our case) with the click of a mouse. Now anyone can do it, even easier than before.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Here are some of our demands, presented forthwith:
1) A very, very large undisclosed recording advance, non-recoupable from our royalties.
2) Three points on every release.
3) A bowl of green M&M's at every gig, press function, label schmooze-fest, meet & greet, what have you...
4) As well as three new, sealed bags of white crew sox (sizes 6-12) with the bowl of M&M's at above mentioned soirees
5) Total artistic control..over our career, as well as Britney Spears, cause we think she could use some help in that dept.

Any takers?
Band History:
January 2001-Formation of Mazeffect from the ashes of a few NJ bands. They met at a local record store that two out of the three members worked at.
Spring 2001-Recorded self-titled cdep.
Summer/Fall 2001- Releases "Mazeffect" cdep, while writing and rehearsing and attempting to find venues in NJ that'll book a band that doesn't cover the 92.3 KROCK playlist, or sounds like Dave Matthews. Yuck.
December 1st 2001-Performs first gig at the Broadway Central Cafe, soon to become our home away from home. Digital Four-track recorder bought. First home recordings done, which will eventually stretch through 2002, upgrade to a digital 16 track, and become the bulk of the "Remastered...With Bonus Tracks" cd.
Winter 2002-Booked and played more shows, including our first acoustic gig.
March 24 2002-Play a gig at The Saint, Asbury Park, where we recorded the live version of "Making Monsters For My Friends" that is to end up on our "Dee Dee Ramone" tribute 7". We attempt to record most of our shows through the use of a DAT machine placed somewhere in the audience, or by videotaping, or as a last resort photography in an attempt to document our live history.
Summer 2002-"The Best Bands You've Never Heard In Your Life!" Four-way split 7" released. Also features The Ergs!, Grover Kent, and Rats Eyes Retired (At 21). Boy, does vinyl fly off the shelves! Play New Brunswick for the first time. Gain airplay on WFMU and WSOU.
June 2002-Three songs for the "Dee Dee Ramone" tribute 7" recorded the weekend after his death.
Fall 2002-Shows continue on, with many appearances at The Broadway Central Cafe.
October 2002-Release "Dee Dee Ramone" 7"
Winter 2002-More shows, as well as a return to Asbury Park, this time at JIMI, where "The JIMI E.P." is recorded. It was an internet-only downloadable release, but has since gone back into the vaults..
February 2003-Play an acoustic gig at Rodeo-Ristra in Hoboken, NJ, that is filmed for a Channel 12 News story. All sorts of shenanigans result due to this gig, which have been chronichled elsewhere...Play the Court Tavern, New Brunswick, NJ for the first time.
March 22 2003-Play last gig in support of "Mazeffect" e.p. at Images, Fairview, NJ. We didn't play one song off that release either, opting to play newer material, as well as new covers.
Spring/Summer 2003-Finish recording/mastering/artwork for what became "Remastered...With Bonus Tracks", our first full-length cd (12 songs plus a slew of hidden bonus tracks).
Fall 2003-Release "Remastered..." cd
November 29 2003-Play our record release show (with Grover Kent and The Vacationers) at the Broadway Central Cafe, South Amboy, NJ.
Winter 2003-Immediately begin work on a trilogy of records, to see the light of day in 2004.

Your influences?
We kinda have that Ramones, Replacements, Black Flag thing mixed together into a frothy brew, served up with a homemade wall of sound. With a side o' Brian Wilson-esque attempted harmonies. Now I did say "attempted"...
