Fresh Clinic (freshcliniclife.com/) was founded in Spring 2013 in San Bernardino, CA by entrepreneur Paul Martinez. Fresh Clinic is an upscale-urban clothing and lifestyle brand. Paul Martinez, a.k.a. Mané, also offers his production skills to the Hip Hop and R&B Industry. Mané's production style takes vintage sounds and blends them into the modern music environment.
Why this name?
My production name, Mané (pronounced Mawnay), was created by playing around with the syllables of my last name, Martinez. I dropped letters from my last name and added accents until I came up with a name that sounded classy and smooth. It has somewhat of a French or Spanish sound to it.
Do you play live?
No, I do not play live. My job is to create instrumentals behind the scenes to help artists create a sound for their albums.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
This goes back to the early 80's, when CD technology was introduced. The music industry unknowingly support a format that would be easy to copy and bootleg in the future, leading to the rise of mp3's and piracy. For the music industry, it's been devastating as far as sales. Artists never made alot of money on record sales so it has not hurt them as much. In fact, the mp3 and music sharing sites have allowed upcoming independent artists to share their music around the world and build a fan base with little money.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most likely no. There is so much technology out there to help artists. As long as you understand how the technology works and educate yourself on the music industry, then signing a major label contract is not necessary. However, if you choose not to sign, you have to learn to be more patient to build your brand because you do not have the millions of marketing dollars that the major labels have.
Your influences?
I take inspiration from Prince, Michael Jackson, James Brown, New Wave, Synth Pop, Old School and R&B music. I try my best to incorporate sounds from these different genres into my music.
Favorite spot?
I'm from a city called San Bernardino, which is located in the Inland Empire region of California. I love my community and hope to help artists in the area with their projects.
Equipment used:
Yamaha Midi Keyboard, Focusrite Audio Interface, AKG 4200 mic, Fl Studio, vsts , drumkits and sample packs. I also like to record live sounds and play them like instruments.
Anything else...?
I hope you enjoy my work. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a private livestream meeting, please feel free to contact me by email at FreshClinic@Live.com.
