Band History:
Primer is an eclectic rock band from the small town of Fort Fairfield, Maine. Primer formed in 2000, after guitarist Matthew Rochford and vocalist Dustin Saucier discussed the idea of starting a band. In a few weeks, the band known as Blizzard of Mayhem was born. The band consisted of Matthew Rochford on bass, Joshua Foster on guitar, Jesse Sayers on drums, and Dustin Saucier on vocals. In a few weeks time, Blizzard of Mayhem or B.O.M., for short, had played a show that was rather successful. After another show, members of the band decided that we needed a change in our rhythm section. The band talked it over and decided that it would be best to change our drummer. In January they dropped Jesse and found a new drummer.
Timothy Churchill was a talented musician. At the age of 13, he had more talent than you could shake a stick at. We couldn’t pass up on the offer, so we added him to the band as soon as possible. The guys played around with another name, Blind Illusion, until the band found out that the name had already been taken. After putting our best ideas into a hat (literally), the band drew out the name Primer. They practiced hard into the summer, working on original as well as cover material. In the summer, Primer played at a local festival, but without Josh. In the months to come, and through some conflicts in the band, Josh was dropped. Dustin Saucier had been trying to learn guitar, so he filled in. Matt was tired of playing bass, so he picked up the guitar as well. In the months to follow, Primer played as a three-piece with no bass player. In the spring, after months of thought, the band asked Josh back into the band as bass player. Josh willing accepted, and Primer was now in a true form.
Playing for over a year under the name Primer, the band has worked on keeping a sound that is no sound- they try to keep ideas fresh and be a band with no true genre. With one album released, and one on the way, Primer is proving to be a strong force in the northern Maine area. With a good-sized fan base, Primer hopes to continue to be a source of music for as long as they can.
