Why this name?
Just something I thought up a long time ago. It is actually just me, but I think it is cool to have a "Band" name.
Do you play live?
In my living room mostly for family and friends. I consider myself a recording artist more so than a live artist. Someday, maybe.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I love it that an artists no longer needs to crawl and beg to get their music heard. This is a freeing experience, and more artist should take advantage. If you are going to starve for your music anyway, at least make it publically available for all to hear!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would if they allowed me the freedom to just be myself and do what I am already doing. It would allow more people to hear my music, but, as soon as there are a lot of suits, lawyers and accountants involved, the whole artist thing kind of takes a back seat (except that they get rich off of them) ...
Band History:
I started The Inside in 1991 with a good friend of mine, Mark Collier. We recorded on a four track and layed down an albums worth of music which we titled "Oddinarily". This was before I had a computer, so I just passed out tapes to whoever would listen. The sound was very "They Might Be Giants" at that time.
Mark then went into the Army, so I was on my own until I met another friend named Matt Leiker. We began recording also on a four track, but changed our name to "The Cat's Meow". We actually recorded about seven songs completely and layed down a ton of demos.
That lasted for maybe a year until we parted ways, and I began thinking about another The Inside album. I recorded this on a four track and called it "Anola Parkview". I gave this out to some friends, but I don't feel it is my best work.
About six months later I began recording a CD called "Growing Up!". This time on my new 8-track. I believe that this was some of my best writing to date and got good reviews from those that heard it. This was completed in 1995 --- Then came the bombshell ...
I got married to a wonderful person named Nancy, and my music took a bit of a backseat (you know how it goes). Almost seven years later, I am finally back to recording and making a CD which is tentatively titled "Sentimental Musings". Stay tuned ...
