Band History:
shelflife merely started as a vehicle for much of davin chong's early techno-oriented and other abstract programming endeavors. an early recording entitled "every five minutes" quickly proved the undeniably infectious nature of the unique music created by the young artist. unfortunately, due to numerous sampling rights and copyright ownership laws, the stunning debut ep was unable to be officially released. however, shelflife was not to be fazed; brother of davin, kevin chong joined immediately after the shortcoming and the two recorded the beautiful new ep entitled "we all look beautiful" for the young californian label the gaia project. a newer, more focused sound was the result of a simpler production method and the genius utilization of numerous samples and loops.

combining such disparate genres as IDM and even shoegazer, shelflife is able to achieve a sound wholly unique to both the listener and the artist. at one moment encapsulated by drones and interweaving guitar lines, another moment full blasting guitar squeals and wonderfully glitchy ambience from carefully cut up samples - shelflife is never predictable. The future looks bright for the young duo, on the verge of their first official release with gaia, and they're not afraid to show it; says davin: "yeah, we're all pretty stoked about this first release. never done anything like this before, but it should be amazing. the label is amazing, and the record should be as well. beauty, sound, and emotion? that sounds just about right."
