Euphoria Rising is a straightforward rock band that shows a lot of maturity and depth for their youth and a unique and fresh sound in their talent. This five-piece from Mesa, Arizona is a well balanced mix that seems to pool their influences together and come up with a cross between garage rock, radio friendly rock, with a thread of alternative/nu-metal and classic rock, even with a guitar solo thrown in for good measure. There is definitely a focus on the instrumentation as well as the lyrics, hailing the sounds of mid 90's U2, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and Soundgarden, yet still having the cutting edge vibe to rival A Perfect Circle, Incubus, Jimmy Eat World, and Muse. The musicians are very skilled and the compositions of the songs are, put simply, delightfully arranged, with flowing solos, intoxicating melodies, booming vocals, and melodic rhythms. The songs all have captivating lyrics that you can sing along to, but without getting too sentimental or bothersome. This is a catchy hard pop-rock group with solid songwriting. Why this name?
The name was chosen by chance. A round robin produced a number of possibilities till Euphoria Rising got the green light.
Do you play live?
They've been playing live venues all over the Phoenix metro area for over a year. When asked about playing live, the band had this to say, "There are moments when you realize that you have just experienced something huge; something you feel has a significance you will remember for a very long time! I have experienced that a few times in my performances, and when I have, it has always been a bit overwhelming. It can be as simple as the crowd singing along to a chorus or someone's expression in response to a particular song. Playing live is the only way to truly connect."
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
"It’s pretty much a blessing and a curse. Both sides have logical arguments, but I think a compromise isn't far from the horizon."
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
"Definitely. We’ve been developing a small record and productions label ourselves, catering to local talent. Signing a contract is one of the biggest moments in a bands career."
Band History:
The band was originally formed in mid 2000 as Inreach. There isn’t a lot of information about the period between 2000 and 2002, but apparently there was a hiatus of some sort, because in 2002, original members Brandon Menard (drums), Derek Stoeckmann (guitar), and Sean Chvatal (guitar) reformed the band, bringing in the rest of the current lineup, namely Derek’s younger brother, Doug Stoeckmann (bass), and Jordan Donesky (vocals). A demo that Inreach had recorded in 2001 was doing well, but they felt that it didn’t capture the intensity of the new lineup, so they decided to record new material with the full band. The result was “The New Year Sessions.”
Your influences?
This band has the most diverse influences and tastes in music. They all similar tastes for artists like A Perfect Circle, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Tool, Coldplay, Alice in Chains, Radiohead, Muse, Mars Volta etc. But their individual tastes very from Derek and Sean who like Nirvana and Pink Floyd, Brandon who likes Rush, Genisis/Phill Collins and Dream Theater, Jordan likes Ryan Adams and Placebo. Their odd mix of influences, both classic and current, mainstream and not, hasve given them a unique sound that everyone can relate to.
