Hi, call me just john. I started as a "home taper," back in high school, and I've been doing odd things with music and noise ever since.
Why this name?
It's partially inspired by Jewel of the Nile, and it's partially a response to the sort of hypocritical thought process that allows a fellow to visit a prostitute, then refuse to pay afterward, citing "moral" objections.
Do you play live?
No. I'd like to, but not many musicians are happy with my approach.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
What somebody said about usenet applies to the whole internet: It's the largest vanity press, ever.

I think we're going back to the days before people made wads of cash doing music. Now everybody can do it in their spare time, often as a social activity.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, why not?

(Okay, there have been many great songs detailing exactly why not; but heck, I'd give it a go if asked.)
Your influences?
Frank Zappa, Brian Eno, Tom Lehrer, Bonzo Dog Band, Conlon Nancarrow, Philip Glass, Dino DiMuro ...
Favorite spot?
Toronto is pretty nice, last I looked.
Equipment used:
Macintoshes, Ableton Suite, Emu XL-7, Korg ES-1, Handsonics, thOnk, Digital Performer, jhno's Looper, various bits of freeware ...
Anything else...?
(Note: All tracks are licensed so that you can play them anywhere free, even commercially! My business plan is these are free, but when some movie director wants variations, I cash in then.)
