Some peeps say I'm a Hip Hop purist. I just love quality music. Hopefully when you hear my music, you'll enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoy making it. I am an MC/producer. This page is to showcase the beats I have for sale right now.
Why this name?
After years of several name changes, I finally became N/A (No Alias) in 2003. Basically, I feel there isn't another name other than my government name that could describe what I'm about. I feel that I'm "Not Applicable" to a lot of what's being done in Hip Hop, I'm no gangsta, thug, playa, pimp, baller, scientist, etc. etc. I'm just me, plain and simple.
Do you play live?
I've been getting on stage at Project Blowed and doing my thing. One of the greatest feelings in the world is performing on stage and the crowd is feeling you. The very first time I went onstage at Blowed, I got the best crowd reaction of the night, which actually surprised me being that it was my first time performing there (not like I had fans prior to that.)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet (well, before the RIAA started suing 12 year old kids) gives people an opportunity to sample someone's work to see if it's worth purchasing. Not all albums are available to listen to at record stores, and if you wanted to check out an up and coming artist that you may have otherwise never given the time of day, you could download their stuff for free. And personally, I think the reason record companies are losing so much money is not because of "so called" illegal downloaders, but because a lot of the music put out now is garbage, and people aren't willing to pay almost $20 for maybe 2 hot songs. But that's just my opinion.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Ever since I've started becoming serious with my music, I've heard all the horror stories about artists getting ripped off and such, and I've come to my conclusion that I rather go the independent route, no matter how tough it is. Plus I don't believe major labels would know how to market me anyway.
Band History:
History in the making...
Your influences?
Major influences in my music are A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, The Roots, Little Brother, People Under The Stairs, Lone Catalysts, Loot Pack, Gang Starr, J Dilla (R.I.P.), Pete Rock and just about anything from the Mid Nineties Hip Hop era.
Favorite spot?
Mid City Los Angeles! I also went to San Francisco for a couple of days and loved it.
Equipment used:
I don't have the resources for a lot of studio equipment, nor a decent PC with software. All I got is an MPC 2000XL and a bunch of records I've collected.
Anything else...?
My goal is to reach a middleground, which is to appeal to people who listen to underground as well as mainstream music.
