THE MONGOLS ARE COMING!!!
Lock the doors, bar the windows, hide the children. The Mongols are coming
to take over music as we know it. Throw away your preconceived notions about
what pop should or shouldn¹t be, and open your minds to a new aural
experience. The Mongols are here to conquer your boredom with their debut
album Buddha¹s Pest. That¹s 13 new songs that fuse sugar-coated melodies
with intriguing sonic landscapes. The carrier single Bulakbol is now
assaulting the airwaves.
The Mongols are guitarist J. Astro a.k.a. Jerome Velasco of the kickass rock
and roll outfit Teeth, bassist and all-around explainer Yan Yuzon, Bogs
³Boga Man² Jugo of the indie pop purveyor Daydream Cycle, and Jesus ³Dizzy²
Ventura, known in his previous incarnation as Ely Buendia from a little band
called the Eraserheads. Buddha¹s Pest was produced by Criminal Records for
Viva Music.
Resistance is futile. Surrender to The Mongols and let rock rule. Buddha¹s
Pest is available at music stores everywhere.
Why this name?
Ely and Diane were at the Museum of Natural History in New York, trying to
get an education, and they happened to run into some Mongolian lamas. This
got them to thinking of how the Mongols took over most of the known world
and how Pinoys, along with other Oriental people, used to be classified as
³Mongolian² or ³Mongoloid², which is no longer politically-correct. Round
that time Ely was thinking of a name for a band, and the light bulb came on.

Band History:
We were all looking for a new band to play with. The vocalist of Teeth had
migrated to the US, so Teeth was dormant. Ely had just left the Eraserheads,
and it was never his plan to go solo. He wanted to go on performing, so he
asked his friends to play gigs with him. That¹s how we got started. At one
point there were ten members in the band. There were no original songs yet,
so we would do Teeth covers, or E-heads covers, and Velvet Underground
songs.
The four of us first played as The Mongols in January of this year, in
Davao. We played in an open-air club next to a construction site, and the
workers started pelting us with stones for no reason whatsoever.
In June we had enough original material, so we produced an EP called ³A
fraction of a second. . .² which we sold at our gigs.
