Why this name?
Tara was definately the person behind the name. I guess we agreed on the name together because we really felt it was a reflection on the kind of lyrics that Tara produces. - ca·thar·sis: purification or purgation of the emotions (as pity and fear) primarily through art -
Do you play live?
We actually dont play gigs at this current point in time but we have actually become very popular with the Melbourne Metal scene anyway due to people passing around our songs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We definately all believe that it is changing the face of music and for a good reason. Fair enough, it means that record labels will lose money due to this, but, I am still a person who goes out and buys a CD if its good and I think many people will still be like that. I dont think it will ever become that extreem where people will just not buy CD's anymore.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if it was fair to all parties. We keep hearing about bands that sign contracts without even thinking and then they realise that they've signed all the rights to their music over the the label. We would only sign a deal if it could meet the needs of our band. If the record label want us so bad they will give us what we want because we are the ones who will make money for them.
Band History:
In 1999 Grant and Adam wanted to form a band. They started out writing songs, with Adam actually being the bass player. With a few altercations, Adam eventually ended up becoming the guitarist. From 1999-2001 the band took many changes with 4 different bass players and 3 singers coming and going. The boys had almost given up hope until they came across a young girl with mountains of potential named Tara Catmull. The guys knew she would be perfect. After a quick meeting with them all they decided that Tara was to join the band. However, it didn't end up working out at first with her. The 2 boys came to a decision that Tara must leave the band as they thought she was too young to take on the responsibility of being in a band. 6 months went by with heaps of music being written in this time but no new singer to put lyrics to it. They both soon realised that they were stupid to get rid of Tara and quickly asked her to rejoin. She was happy to come back and the 3 of them quickly went into overdrive over 2002 writing as much material as they could. They decided to record their best songs at the start of 2003 but made a big decision to mix the music themselves. They spent a lot of time trying new things with different mixes and at around August of 2003, they finally had what seemed to be their final product. 4 years of hard work have finally payed off for the boys with having to go through so many changes in the line-up and finding their perfect singer in Tara who has also put her hard work and dedication and even her heart & soul into her lyrics, the 3 have finally released their debut album, LOVING TO HATE.
