Why this name?
When it comes to making beats, I use Jye Digitech and more recently Self-Taught. Jye is my nickname, DigiTech is the combination of Digital & Technique. I use the name Self Taught now because it sums up just about everything I do and how I learned.
Do you play live?
Not as of yet. Right now, I'm focusing on some other projects.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The net is gonna give power to the independant artists/labels. We're gonna be able to reach people across the world without the majors dictating how things should be done.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm not sure. As an independant you have total creative control over your project, which translates to a better product and more money you get to keep.
Band History:
As far as music goes. It's pretty much in my family. My father played the guitar in a band in his younger days, and was a DJ. So I grew up learning to DJ and listening to a wide variety of music. So the natural progression for me was to make music. So I'd use my father's DJ equipment to make beats ultimately making demos for my boys. When cats heard my beats and heard me flow, they were like I needed to be doing this for myself, and I've been doing it ever since.
Your influences?
Everything from opera to doo wop. So when you hear my music, you'll never hear the same ol stuff.
Favorite spot?
My favorite spot is Connecticut. Love hartford, danbury, waterbury...the whole damn state!
Equipment used:
I have a modest setup: yamaha keyboard PSR-540, sampler, beat machine, digital recorder, but the true power comes from my custom built PC. With the little I have the PC makes it sound like a million dollar studio.
