Dead Centre were a punk band from Nelson, New Zealand. They formed in 1988 and stayed together until 1998.
Why this name?
In Nelson, we have this hill, with a big spike, which is meant to be the centre of New Zealand.
Do you play live?
We played live all the time. There was one time, when the crowd went nuts, and there was all these kids crawling around in the rafters, above us, (quite high up) of the venue.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has changed the music industry for good. There's a lot more music available.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would have to reform first.
Band History:
Dead Centre are -

Mike - guitar/vocals
Rik - drums/vocals
Jon - bass/vocals
Nath - vocals (at the beginning)

Dead Centre were formed in 1988, as a four-piece, when Mike Puke started playing guitar and formed a band. Mike and Rik would jam at Mikes warehouse, with Rik using 44 gallon drums, and pots and pans and things. Rik then bought a drumkit for $90, Nath bought a plastic mic, and Jon bought some shitty bass. Dead Centre broke up in 1990, but reformed a while later, as a three piece, and then lasted until 1998. Mike Puke moved to Dunedin and formed The Pukes, as well as recording songs solo, as Puke, and the other members are still playing in various bands in Nelson.
