Sarah Wheeler is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter who plays the guitar, piano, mandolin, and also writes, sings, and produces her own music. After writing her first song at the age of 13 ("Melancholy Melody" from her album Child of Tuesday), the southern California native found that she couldn't stop; soon she began performing at neighborhood block parties and charity events.

After spending many months learning how to record her music at her makeshift home studio, Sarah taught herself how to play the piano. The end product of all of this learning was her first album, Child of Tuesday, most of which was written and recorded when Sarah was just 16 years old. Released in January of 2005 both as a free download and as a limited CD pressing of 100 copies, the album's simple, acoustic approach was well-received by both fans and critics alike. Its raw emotiveness and stripped-down arrangements garnered such praise as "a very confident debut that shows a very versatile artist who is capable of going very far" (Collected Sounds.com). Her song "Lion King" stayed in the Top 40 charts on Soundclick.com for over 18 months.

Sarah is currently starting the recording process on her second album, currently untitled. It will feature a wider variety of instruments with only a portion of the angst found on Child of Tuesday. It will be self-released under her label, Doubleyew Records, in 2007.

Why this name?
It's my name!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think both are amazing tools to help independent artists promote themselves and earn supporters across globe. I also think that ultimately, people will want to own physical CD's instead of just mp3's--but only if the music is high quality, not just one hit and 11 tracks of filler.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. I have my own label, and would not be willing to compromise my beliefs or music to appease some sort of industry standard.

Distribution is another matter, however--after all, the more, the merrier! :o)
Your influences?
I'm deeply inspired by Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Patty Griffin, Tegan and Sara, Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Slean, and the many, many other singer-songwriters who have influenced me throughout the years.
Favorite spot?
Hmm...I've never actually been there, but Ireland (or anywhere in the UK, really) seems to be the perfect place for me.
Equipment used:
Yamaha electric piano, Alvarez acoustic guitar, GrooveTubes mic.
