Rawhead

Ranging from the otherworldly, noise/collage weirdness of "Testamony to the Link (Marx = Satan)" (and its dub version), to more streamlined, Big Blackish riffmonsters like "Dark" (heard here in instrumental demo form, as vocals/lyrics were never finalized) and the Chrome-influenced "Beyond the West," Rawhead searched for searing surrealism in sound.
Band History:
When NYC dark-rockers Burning Rome imploded in spring 1986, guitarist Greg (The Naked and the Dead) Fasolino invested in a drum machine, synth, and sampler, and began this more experimental dark noise-rock project known simply as Rawhead.
A revolving door of additional sonic guests came and went until the project ended in June 1987, among them several vocalists: Robert Mailhouse (he sings on "Beyond the West," and later became semi-famous as a cable host and drummer for Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar), Jetta Bara ("Flip" girl and actress known for her appearance in Richard Kern's "Submit to Me Now"), and Thomas Truax (now a successful NYC-based solo artist). Other collaborators included two former members of Concrete Witchdoctors: Joe Orr (bass, metal percussion, and "rap")) and Ed Rapacki (metal percussion and synthesizer).
Bassist Lorianne Oakley (also formerly of The Naked and the Dead and Burning Rome) was a mainstay; she retired from music when Rawhead came to a close.
Fasolino continued on in 1987-88 with Wrench, and in 1989 (with Orr and Rapacki) as Sea of Fur. He currently is a member of Bell Hollow.
A bit of trivia: the metal percussion heard on these tracks was played on a large tire rim salvaged from the stage set of Einstuerzende Neubauten's May 1986 fiery spectacle at New York City's Palladium!
