[ 2 6 - 7 6 ] can best be described as simple techno, or perhaps simple electronica. I have always been a fan of very basic techno, such as the simplistic looping tracks of the Mega Man and Metroid video games, and pushed the style in that direction. With the exception of my first piece, the songs were created entirely using BuzzTracker's built in synthesizers and filters. The resulting style is unadorned and reminiscent of earlier video game soundtracks. I've tried hard to give each song a distinctive mood and feel. While I am personally a fan of darker techno, my work tends to be more upbeat and energetic. Each piece has darker passages to it, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel in a manner of speaking.
Why this name?
The origin of the name [ 2 6 - 7 6 ] is a long story. Suffice to say it was born of high school angst and an unrequited love, and came to symbolize choices made in life. All of that really has nothing at all to do with the band, it was just the original site I hosted my music on. In any event, the numeric name certainly fits the mood of my music, so I suppose that's the end reason I chose it as the "band" name.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet and mp3s provide a means of delivering music from the artists direct to the consumer in the comfort of their own home without the high prices and inconvenience of a middle man. Of course the RIAA doesn't like this one bit...but it's a dinosaur in this age of digital information exchange and it's hegemonic days are numbered.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure...they still have massive amounts of income to throw into advertising and huge sway with radio stations, television etc. etc. They're no longer necessary, but that doesn't mean they're useless.
Band History:
Stumbled across BuzzTracker and found a free program to make the sounds I wanted to hear.
