Etherfysh
NEWS
Hello Friends,
My apologies for such a long abscence from this group. Time never seems to be my own these days.
It has been sometime since the last Ethernews email although much has been happening all the same.
Not least of which as you may have seen from the subject heading there is now a new Etherfysh CD, entitled "On Your Way Home". This is a LIMITED EDITION of 150 numbered and signed copies only.
With 7 tracks of which 5 are brand new, recorded between December '06 and January '07, the remaining 2 are; "salamina", which appeared on the "Yule Tide 2" disc (now long gone) and the other is a very different mix of the track "Seraphim" (which is on "Stasis"), both tracks leapt into the overall feel of the album. The full track-listing, with a running time of just over 62 minutes, is as follows:
1 - Departure
2 - Rundfunk '78
3 - Salamina
4 - Sunrise Over Salem
5 - Journeys With Ama
6 - On Your Way Home
7 - Hearth (The Seraphim)
"Sunrise Over Salem" features the guitar of The 'Elastic Unicorn' himself Stewart Crowther and "On Your Way Home" was recorded live at Noetic Sound.
Cover art features the great work of Nik Head.
The album is released on the 12th February at a cost of £8.oo (plus postage) and is only available from the Etherfysh website. Note the URL!

News of this release was posted at the News page of the Etherfysh website last week and interest has been staggering.
Once all 150 copies have gone, we will drop all 150 numbers into a hat and drawing 2 out. The lucky 2 will receive a proof sheet of the Artwork signed by Nik Head & Etherfysh.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The final release of "Totem" has been put on hold until all the artwork and packaging formats are finalised (it WILL be worth the wait!) and work will resume on the next Project entitled "Labyrinth" due for release later in the year.
"Stasis" is going great guns and is available from the Etherfysh website, CD Baby and outlets such as Groove, CD Services, Aural Innovations and Eurock.
Many thanks for your time & Kindest regards
Chris (Etherfysh)

Chris Christou is the man behind Etherfysh, a project through which he explores a dreamy, downtempo form of electronic music encompassing genres from the Berlin School and New Age, to ambient and hints of jazz.
Why this name?
Well, it feels at times when the 'Muse' descends that ideas are plucked from the ether, and just like fish a piece can suddenly veer off in another direction and back again. Hence the name Etherfysh seemed a good amalgamation of this thought.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well for me the Internet (and MP3 technology) has opened up avenues and opportunities for many artists such as myself to make the public a little more aware of what we do. I feel it can only continue to have positive affects.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, of course if the right offer came along.
Band History:
"Electronic music has always been a fascination for me," says Christou. "As a kid, my best friend's mother was always playing Tangerine Dream, so early exposure to albums like Zeit, Phaedra, and Stratosphere had an irrevocable effect."
Christou, who is from from Hastings East Sussex, England, spent his late teens and early twenties exploring new music and saving for his first synth purchase: a kit built string machine and Korg MS10. He steadily built up a collection of instruments, and continued honing his sound—one built around the visual and emotive powers of electronic music.
"Electronic music and synthesisers always had an ability to draw and conjure images, sensations and emotions within me. I have always thought that Klaus Schulze's title Picture Music summed up the genre pretty succinctly. I don't really spend time trying to work out whether Etherfysh fits into a particular musical box. I would much rather my listeners draw their own conclusions on that one."

Your influences?
Inspired by early electronic pioneers such as Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangellis, AshRa and Tim Blake, Etherfysh also count less obvious artists as inspirational. Weather Report, and in particular Joe Zawinul have had a major impact on the inspiration, thinking and recordings of Etherfysh.
