Off the Deep End has been around for about 10 months playing venues in the Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago area. They come from the Madison area playing a unique brand of emo music. The members are Evan Menzer (vocals/bass) Jake McCormick (screams/vocals/guitar) Zeb Gockenbach (ingenius guitar) and Scott Strandlie (excellent drumming). They have recorded a short 5-song demo CD and are looking to do a fulkl length sometime this summer in a professional studio.
Why this name?
Off the Deep End is that point in your adolescence or even your whole life where you feel like nothing is right and your going "off the deep end"---its really cliche but we're simple folk.
Do you play live?
we LOVE playing live shoes. We play in the triangle of Madison, WI Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL areas. Some memorable moments would have to be...when Jake collapsed his lung and nearly died on stage. Evan gashed his head open on a wall and was bleeding on stage and the time we had a concert in Evan's basement with the Felix Culpa and stuff.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a very positive thing for any bands that want/need exposure or a fan base or anything. We believe that file-sharing is the way to go and no one but the bands has the right to say someone should not do it...f*** Metallica...they suck.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yeah, but we want to try and do things ourself for awhile and learn the hardships of being a band. After you get through those trials of terror then you can do anything.
Your influences?
We like emo and punk mainly. Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Thursday to name a few and bands like Green Day and Rancid. Also.>> the Casualties rock.
Favorite spot?
We'd have to say the Stoughton Youth Center cuz the kids are nice.
Equipment used:
Marshall half-stack cab with a purple Holland head. Marshall pre-amps. SWR WorkingMan's 15" Bass rig. And a 1950 (or something) Ludwig Champagne colored kit. Scott uses Zildjian sticks. Zeb rocks a Fender strat. Evan plays a 1970 Fender Jazz Bass. And Jake really doesnt have anything of his own cuz he's a scab. But he's played on Ibanez and Epiphone guitars.
Anything else...?
Come to one of our shows and say "I SAW YOU GUYS ON SOUNDCLICK.com" And we'll give you a free CD and some free stickers.
