Why this name?
My given family name is "Son of John", I am the actual (grand)son of a John, I cut samples (when I use 'em) like a fillet-o-fish (Slivers) and I take a long time perfecting the mix... Name kinda wrote itself really -
...
...Do you play live?
Not currently - although I have played (as a DJ) in Brighton & Hove and performed a couple of my own tracks in Jamaica in 2002...
I'd love to DJ properly again someday... But for now I'm happy to broadcast on the Internet from home...

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The MP3 provides a compact, versatile, easily transferable medium for both artist and enthusiast/collector alike - empowering the production of 'quality' music by computer without the 'overhead' of expensive "Studio Time".
The Internet allows real potential for independent ("unsigned") artists & producers, should they choose, to get their material heard and distributed "on merit" direct to their "target audience" - thereby freeing them to focus on their art, rather than compliance with contractual obligations - via Internet broadcasting, MP3 distribution and other sites.
Also inherent within the Internet are its communities. These provide the medium for direct contact and communication between artist and audience - and all this implies for distribution, feedback, artistic growth and opening doors for collaborations.
Both ease the grip held by the "corporate" Music Industry on music. This is a good thing for music as it returns 'focus' to "The Art" and the artist/producer...

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Surprisingly, yes I would.
Whilst I hold a firm belief that there is far too much 'control' held by the "corporates" within the Music Industry, they DO have an established 'network' for wide exposure and distribution.
The Internet (although still 'young') is already a complicated, competitive "mire" within which it is very easy to get "lost" and go un-noticed... It'll improve - but it's not there yet...
The other alternative is to get involved with a new studio / label as it's starting up - which I now am; so watch this space...

2001 - co-produced "eJayberFest" with my wife (who's idea it was); a live, one-day event bringing together members of an online community of 'unsigned' artists under one roof, playing their tracks in a venue and broadcasting it to the world via 'Net radio...
2001 - LJS tracks played in Ibiza...
2002 - played briefly at Sandals, Jamaica (Ocho Rios)...
2003 - wrote the UK manual for PC DJ Producer and the demo for the 'dance' edition.
