Melanogaster is the mad audio trappings of Kris Gerome in Peoria Illinois. The selections are primarily demonstrations of MR Amp amplifiers and effect pedals, and the music is in a format to be used in video and film as background music.
Why this name?
This is the name of one of my Stratocasters. It is the "Stratocaster Melanogaster", which means the black-bellied Stratocaster.
Do you play live?
I have not played live since 1988. I am mostly a recording "artist".
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has blown the door off of the little lockbox the RIAA wants all of us to exist in.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course! What musician who has played for over 20 years wouldnt?
I am currently signed with Statue Records of L.A. (great bunch of people to work with!)

Band History:
1983: First contact with guitars, and recording started (not very good).
1984: Seen Yngwie live with Alcatraz in Santa Barbara: big boost (not many people knew who he was).
1985: Recorded material in Germany.
1987: At SIU, recorded lots of material (most ever: tapes full of stuff for student film use).
1987: Tapes Recorded: "This is it" (1986-1987), "Live in Carbondale" (1987), "Toxic Zombies" (1988), "In the Basement" (1988), "The Neopeople" (1988), "Mental Wounds" (1988), "Bad Weather" (1988), "Morgue of the Living" (1989)
1987: Scalloped my guitar (a 1985 Aria Pro Wildcat III I bought in Trier, Germany).
1988: Met Vinny Moore: another big boost (could not play like him, however).
1989: Played bass for a cover band (they already had two guitar players).
1990: Still have not made it in music (oh, well maybe I should use my degree for something).
1991-2000: The 'silent years' on no recording (career years).
2000: Recorded "A decade later" CD (8 tracks, no bass!).
2000: Started building my own tube amps.
2000: Discovered MP3.COM! I have fans now (a first for me).
2001: Recorded "Apologies NOT included" CD (32 digital tracks).
2002: Recorded "Burned Alive" CD (32 digital tracks and the last CD to have canned bass).
2003: MP3.COM died. Now I have no fans (and sold no CDs ever).
2004: Re-named 'band' to Melanogaster (no good reason for this).
2004: I have still not made it in music (and still don't care: I am now officially a has-been-wannabe).
2004: Working on current material (featuring me playing guitars and bass). The CD still has no name, yet.
2004: Oh no! Traded the Stratocaster Melanogaster guitar for a Fender Precision bass (band name stays).
2004: New bass officially ends canned bass tracks for band.
2004: Signed with Statue Records of L.A. New album is called 'Succubus' (please buy it).
2005: Work started on the shredder album I was always too embarassed to record.
2005: I was given a 1963 Hammond M-100! Thanks Ryan at ToneLab Studios and Suit & Tie Guy (www.suitandtieguy.com).

Anything else...?
All music was recorded, mixed, and mastered on a high-end PC.
The average selection takes upto 3 weeks to produce. The guitars are NOT synthesized (just drums, effects, and some basslines before I got my bass setup).
The selections on this site showcase my personal line of all-tube amplifiers and effect pedals made under the 'Mr Amp' name in the Peoria Illinois area.
These selections are recorded for background music in videos and films (some of my earliest recording experience was recording music for student films).
Statue Records has my best masters, and the MP3s on this site are rendered especially for use by Internet downloads. There is a hickup on all of them, so if you want better quality, contact Statue Records in L.A., or contact me!
A special thanks to Emmet Sargeant III of Beagle Studios in sunny Santa Barbara for selling my first guitar in 1983 (an Aria Pro Cardinal Series SG copy). I dont think I would be punishing the world with my brand of noise if he didnt start me on my metal education.
THANKS FOR VISITING!
