The Atomic Fist! is the best band in California, soon to be the best in the world. We have smoke machines, we have pleather pants, we have synthesizers and white belts.
Why this name?
Atomic power is good power - it is the most powerful of powers, as well as the most glowing and likely to cause rockin' mutants.
Do you play live?
Of course we play live. Catch our shows, they're incredibly fun.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has irrevocably changed not only the music industry but the very fabric of how our society deals with information. The world is at one's fingertips. Instead of being limited to a record store, one can be instantly connected to all the bands in the world, large and small. The good ones don't need as much advertising, hype, and whatnot to be recognized much more quickly.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. Money is still a major factor in what a band can do, and a major label provides that. With bigger amplifiers, more lights, more smoke machines, and more time to work on music instead of worrying about other stuff, we can make better music. With tour buses, stadiums, and TV specials, we can get that music out to more people.
Band History:
The Atomic Fist! right now is made up of Max on lead vocals and sometimes guitar, Diane on lead guitar and sometimes synth, Sam Raven on bass, and Orr on drums.
Your influences?
The Buzzcocks, the Ramones, and the Dead Kennedys started us out with angry, fast punk. Glam metal bands influence our stage presence and the bits of pop hooks come from Britney's crowd. Lyrics, all by Max, are uniquely sick. Our sound is like if Edward Gorey fronted a punk band and wore heavy eye makeup and polyester pants.
Favorite spot?
We may claim to hate it, but we secretly love our hometown of Berkeley, right across the bay from San Francisco
Equipment used:
Max plays a 1977 Gibson SG. Diane alternates between a really shiny Yamaha keyboard and a purple-blue Fender strat. Sam favors a Peavey bass, but sometimes uses a Jackson. Orr plays a Gretsch drum set.
Anything else...?
Listening to other bands will give you HIV.
