Ipomoea Violacea is the continuing evolution of my music, growing in complexity and detail, adding new instruments and technologies and incorporating new influences all the time. The purpose of IV is only to be as expressive as I can possibly be, and constantly expand that. As pretentious as that sounds, just give my music a listen. :^D
Why this name?
Ipomoea Violacea is the Latin name for Morning Glory, my favorite vine.
Do you play live?
Never have. It's difficult to play four or more interweaving parts at once.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet breaks down the record industry's business model by eliminating the need for an intermediary between the artist and the fans. If my fans can download my music with no middleman, why should a company stick a label on my music and profit off of it?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If they would distribute my music on my terms, for a fair price, certainly.
Band History:
I.V. is the third evolution of my solo projects, and is by far the most complex and expressive. The first of the three, Julie Flash, was a simple acoustic rock effort, two-tracked through a computer. Thatcher! followed that, and went into more complex guitar and vocals. I.V. continues the sequence, but taken into a four-track studio (Leadfoot Gurt Studio) in my basement. Now I work with complex sounds, like the feedback on 'Limiter Limiter' to produce more intense and emotional music than was possible before.
Your influences?
Emo, Goth, Fugazi, Joy Division, Hoover, Indian Summer, Refused, Still Life, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Hot Water Music, Planes Mistaken for Stars, Bauhaus, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Roxy Music,
Favorite spot?
My studio, definitely. Probably the only place i'm truly comfortable.
