Chicago has far to long been an absent active force in hip hop music. Most of the mainstream Chicago hip hop was based on fast, fiery flows over hi hat and snap driven tracks in the late 90‘s. Home of the house music scene, Chicago is also heavily influenced by soul and rock roots. Growing up in the age of techno also makes it much harder to place up and coming rap/producer Mirrah Gee’s complex sound into a genre. A Fair blend of hip hop? Pop with a touch of soul maybe? Others would beg to differ and title it none other than a conscious rap. Based solely on the harsh realities of life and growing pains, Some would say this young woman could be possibly creating a new future for Chicago hip-hop. With the arrival of Mirrah Gee’s custom 4th coast sound, the mystery of the non existing market in and for Chicago hip hop could soon the past. Born January 14th 1986 in Harvey, Il, Mirrah got an earlier start as an entertainer. Dancing for money and familiar with memorizing the songs heard, She began writing her own raps at the tender age of 10. Raised in the 90’s, Mirrah was exposed to far to much as a youngster. Being forced to grow up before her time, Mirrah’s wisdom is evident within every line. Chicago is know for many things, From the days of the mob to the current events of the modern street gangs. There are no embellishments needed when speaking upon the poverty and violence that is plaguing Chicago’s streets. Turn on any news channel and your likely to see a report about Chicago’s high murder rate. With lines like “other famous entertainers choosing to ignore it/catch me running more closer towards it” Mirrah is trying to bring a national view to the politics of Chicago to help cease the crime. Also known as Yung Guddah Girl, she is seen as one of the brightest musical producers the city has to offer. Producing for the likes of other local Chicago acts is what has garnered Mirrah the most attention. She started making beats in early 04 and has been sickening as the flu since. Using only fruity loops and a computer, She began blended the techno makings of the original program with gritty drums and heavy 808s. Drawing her inspiration from the sounds of the past, Mirrah is an old soul living with a futuristic mentality. That unique blend is what makes her a rising star soon to dominate airwaves. Her influences list like a popular jukebox. From Nas and Mary J Blige to Fiona Apple and Frank Sinatra, This gifted young musician is a fan of ALL genres. A blend that is crystal clear upon an ear’s listen. As a young woman today in an obsolete female rap industry, Mirrah is here to show and prove that the ladies to can hold grounds. Her style sets her apart from the countless sexed up glamour girl images mostly seen of the popular female rappers of her time. When asked what best describes her style a mere “jus listen” is normally given. Its hard to put someone who thinks outside of the box inside of one. Mirrah is sure to have a promising future with a humble attitude and outgoing personality. This is just the beginning of whats to come for this talented kid. Naturally just creative and having a way with words will help prolong a longevity for this Capricorn. Mirrah also has plans of starting a record label to help guide fellow artist in the streets to get away from the typical life they are accustom to living. Trying to make away out of poverty as the “voice of choice”, this is just the beginning for this promising talent.
