If you like the Cranberries, You'll love Blaq Lily
Why this name?
Oddly enough we just happen to own a black silk lilly and thought that this would be a cool name for a formerly gothic chick fronted band.
Do you play live?
Yes!! We love live performance it is wonderful to be able to grab all the energy from the audience and make it a part of our show and our music.
If you make it big..?
we are going to buy a house that keeps the cold out.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives bands with limited resources a chance to reach a fanbase way outside their own back yard.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends on whether it makes sense or not.
Band History:
The Blaq Lily Project is the result of several efforts ranging from a folk/acoustic band named Special Forces to a recent gothic effort called LivingDead. The result is an edge Neo-Celtic project known as Blaq Lily.
During their tenure with various projects, Arminta and Michael have played in venues all over the United States. They have produced 2 Independent CD projects which each received regional air play on both college and commercial stations. Their song, Smile, the leadoff cut from their second release, charted on several stations. The most notable being KQ92 Minneapolis, MN.
Right out of the gate, Blaq Lily has met with tremendous success. A stellar performance at the RCA Dome, in Indianapolis, has gained the attention of local, news stations. Feature slots at various clubs, through out the Midwest, include: Rock Lobster, Jitter Beans, The Wildcat Brewing Company, The Music Box, and a special invitation to perform in the Artsgarden Acoustic Festival at The Circle Center Mall in Indianapolis, In. Also The International Festival at The Indiana State Fair Grounds, The City of Music Fest VH1 Save the Music Benefit; Blind Munchies in Menomonie, Wi. Horizon Coffee in House Marengo, IN; the Gathering Place in St Louis, MO and most notably, the 98 Summer NAMM at The convention Center in Nashville, TN.
Everywhere they play the crowd response is tremendous. Combining carefully selected, instantly recognizable cover tunes with their own catchy originals, their performance is electric. Some have said that they are reminiscent of an acoustic version of The Cranberries.
Arminta is originally from a rural area just outside of Lafayette, IN. Raven is from the Indianapolis, IN south side. They met in Lafayette in 1981 while Michael was attending college their.
Having spent much of their time on the road since 1982, they have had many experiences that have directly contributed to the unique blend of entertainment and sound that is today known as Blaq Lily.
Alexandra is from Carmel, In, has and extensive musical education and is currently a graduate music student at Butler University.
Daniel, from Greenwood, In, also has an extensive musical education has played in everything from jazz combos to orchestras and is currently a 3rd year percussion major at Butler University.
Blaq Lily's musical style has been influenced by a broad spectrum of artists, including but certainly not limited to, Vivaldi, The Beatles, Metallica, and Jefferson Airplane. The result is an eclectic sound that we term Neo-Celtic.
The bottom line is,
if you like the Cranberries,
you'll love Blaq Lily.
