LUSST has evolved from a novice, exploratory rock band into a solid, energetic alternarock band that delves into diverse musical textures and varied singing styles. Incorporating a sonic scope of melodies and emotional, reckless lyrics, LUSST indulges in an unlikely marriage of generes to share and connect with the listener.
Why this name?
"Lusst" is the German word for "solved," a fitting name for a band whose purpose is to provide a sense of completion to the listener.
Do you play live?
We play live across South Texas and love every minute of it. Special moments include watching the crowd singing our own songs, connecting with us while up on stage.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We totally support mp3 and what it's done for us. The music industry is constantly changing because of the internet, allowing our band to reach a broader spectrum of listeners who, otherwise, would not be there.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
That is our main goal, though the internet has made so many more independent distribution options available, which we are exploring. We hope to perform in a spotlight show at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas in the Spring of 2004 to further expose our music and, hopefully, land a record deal.
Band History:
In the early 1990s, while performing with various cover bands, Victor Torres (vocals, guitar) met Emanuel Saldana (guitar, backup vocals) during and open jam session, forming the crux of LUSST. They spent several years learning about each other's styles in a bevy of original songs, balancing their daily lives with their unfettered passion for music. Since then, with the addition of Jorge Garcia (percussion) and Eliseo Avendano (bass), LUSST has completed its first full-length album, and the band is now playing at venues and festivals across the Rio Grande Valley area.
Your influences?
Our musical influences reflects both the harmonic and melodic sounds of the Beatles, Collective Soul, The Smashing Pumpkins and the thunderous rhythms of Metallica and Slayer.
Favorite spot?
The Shop! A great place to jam, create our music, and party.
