Marcanum X Biography (© Copyright – Marcanum X)

Marcanum X was extremely influenced by the likes of Canibus, Jedi Mind Tricks, Army of the Pharaohs, Kool G Rap, Rakim, KRS-One, MF Grimm, The Lost Children of Babylon, Gang Starr, Wu-Tang Clan, Chino XL and numerous artists who preserve real Hip Hop to this day and was always into lyricists like these whose lyrical skills are raw, intelligent, focused, deep and really makes an individual think for themselves. He vows to keep Hip Hop in it's original form when it was born in 1973, yet he wants to be as unique as he can in a day when originality, to the common man, has been lost.

Marcanum X started rhyming in 2004, but never got serious till around 2010. He has a very sophisticated lyric scheme that he is never profane. Although the common world may not be able to understand him, real Hip Hop heads do and will. He may be compared to other artists of his nature, who came before him, but no matter what, he will continue to stay on the path of originality and uniqueness.

Marcanum X has a debut solo project coming soon called The Enigmatic Simplicity (© Copyright – Marcanum X) which will be released within the next few years. He is going to great lengths to making his debut album a success. Be prepared for what MX had in store...

Why this name?
The Meaning Behind the name - MARCANUM X (© Copyright – Marcanum X)

I used to go by the name MV Un4chuNate. MV replaced the term MC. Instead of "Master of Ceremonies" it would be "Master of Versifying." Un4chuNate was just a name I came up with. Somewhat clever, but it sounded too dismal. It was too hard of a pseudonym (alias) for my fans / people to relate with. So I thought about changing my MC name again. I simply just changed it to "Versifyah." MV also stood for "Magmatic Versifyah." So I just took the last part of that name. About a week or so ago, I noticed an artist who goes by the name "Versifyer." I knew I couldn't keep my new name because: 1. It'd make me look like a biter, in which I'm not. 2. If that "Versifyer" is either to people 'garbage' or 'dope,' it would still make me look bad either way. So I thought of some ideas. Some people thought it would be funny to have a comical name for me. I had some joker suggest the name "Turd Burglar." IDK about you, but that guy probably got his Masters Degree in the plumbing department. No 'minds in the gutter' here. So since I'm an MC of a complex nature and with the relativity of my debut album's first name "The Enigmatic Simplicity," I wanted to take a simple, but very clever approach, finding a name people can relate to easily, but still maintain that complex nature that I have. So I thought of the made up word, BARCANUM. BARCANUM is a combination of 2 words. BAR meaning 'lyrics.' ARCANUM means 'mystery' or 'secret.' There's an electronic group named ARCANUM, so I couldn't use just that name itself since it's been used. So I combined the 2 words into Barcanum. X simply means the same thing as ARCANUM, so I added that to it because I am double the mystery. But then, as I thought about it more, it was even cleverer to make it MARCANUM X because that's what my main goal here is: Markin' out whack MCs in the game and bringing a better name towards Real Hip Hop.

There you have it. I've checked for myself. No one soul or MC/rapper is named Barcanum X. If I ever see someone with that name almost exactly or a similar variation of it and you use it as an MC name, beware........

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a great tool, but you have to know how to use it right (i.e. how to do business with other artists, collabos, verses, beats, music distribution, etc.). I see millions of artists who come up on Myspace, YouTube, Facebook. etc., and they're artificial. They're not themselves. They're trying to be like somebody else. 95% of artists now got it all mixed up.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I want to go as far as I can and be able to maintain the true hip hop image, which has been so degraded by artists who abuse it's nature.

Favorite spot?
Philadelphia, PA (Never been there but I love the culture, and hope to go there some day).
I'd like to visit basically the whole entire U.S. East Coast, but Philly is where my heart's at.

Where I live.

That will always be a mystery.......
Anything else...?
We are bombarded by fools in the industry who claim in order to be a successful MC/Beatmaker, you have to be signed to a major label. This is false. The remnants of real hip hop are really underground. We gotta preserve this because it's history.

This may sound tacky but, since I listen to lots of intelligent hip hop, I try to keep my lyrics super complex and intelligent w/out cursing, sexual overtone, or contradicting my beliefs. To me, those things are just a complete waste of time. but I try to maintain the true & real hip hop image. There are many hip hop artists out there who can really rap and not have to curse. When I collabo, you'll never hear me swear and my albums will be as hardcore, lyrical, and deep as they can with no profanity and will be only released as one version.

I hope y'all can respect that about me. That's just me, but I'd still love to work with and collabo with "real" hip hop artists and legends.
