Do you like Rock? Then you'll love us! The Public Library is a Progressive Rock band with hints of power-pop and punk. We're a bunch of college students with majors ranging from engineering to political science to microbiology who all love music!
Why this name?
Stefan (drummer) and Garrett (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) were thinking of cool band names for the not yet established band and they drove by the public library and thought "Hey, that'd be a cool name! The Public Library!"
Do you play live?
The band loves performing. Each time we've played a show live has been wonderful. In the studio, you may nail a sweet solo but there's no applause or cheer from the crowd and that's what we love.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would love to get signed to a record company! If given the opportunity, each member would love to be able to make a living off of playing music.
Band History:
The band was formed primarily through acquaintances and living in the same vacinity. At the time, we had all lived on campus. Garrett (vox, rhythm guitar), Stefan (drums), Joe (lead guitar), and Stephen (bass) all lived in the Quads (this was the initial line-up). Garrett and Stefan had known each for about a year and after coming up with the band name they decided to form a band under the name "The Public Library." Garrett had heard mega man-esque guitar coming from my room before and asked Stefan (Joe and Stefan were roommates then) if Joe would be interested. Joe said yes knowing that it wouldn't be a metal band, but a progressive rock band like Weezer or The Pixies. Stephen was a suite-mate of Stefan and Joe's who also played guitar and bass. Joe asked if you Stephen would be interested in playing bass for the band. Stephen agreed so he could refine his bass and public performing skills. The band practiced across the street in Stefan's cousin's garage for about a year.

During the initial year of the band's inception. We only played one show at an open-mic on campus which was a blast. It was our first show so we were all pretty anxious. The other entries all consisted of solo acoustic acts and we were the only 4 piece band. Fortunately, the audience loved us.

The band became encumbered by school and other commitments so for a period of about 6 months, the band was inactive. However, the band had a wealth of material that we didn't want to see go to waste. Our mutual friend (Jared) had purchased a surplus of recording gear so we asked if he would be interested in producing and recording our album. Upon tracking the parts for the song "Perfect Day," Jared (who is a superb piano player) came up with a cool keyboard piece to take on to the outro chorus which sounds great. We took him on after this. Our other friend Garrett (bass) had expressed interest in joining the band in the passed and we knew that our current bassist was graduating soon and had already made plans beyond graduation so we were in the neighborhood for a new bassist. The band had actually asked Garrett if he wanted to play bass, but he declined due to prior commitments. We had a few band practices with Garrett and knew immediately that he would fit right in.

During the Winter of '10-'11 the band began seriously recording the songs for the CD with the current line-up: Garrett, Stefan, Jared, Joe and Garrett. The CD is still currently in production but projecting a summer of '11 release.
