Hi. We're a band called Killing Buddha. And no, we're not a Zen hating possee, fixed on the suppression of eastern values. We're a rock band based out of Sacramento, CA. We enjoy playing shows, recording music, and plotting our psychedelic circus/rock opera troop's attack on the world. Well...one day, soon enough. We like incorporating cool weird theatrics into our live performances and hope in our small way, to improve the experience of living on planet Earth, raising the overall frequency and consciousness, if not just decibal level, up a few notches.
Why this name?
"Killing Buddha" is a Zen concept for elliminating the illusion that we are not aleady one with everything. It's about becoming what you dream, no longer imagining yourself as seperate from it. It also gets some fun reactions.
Do you play live?
We play a lot around Sacramento and more and more so in the surrounding areas. The more the merrier. We're all about playing live and somehow creating an extra memorable moment, be it through video collages, integrated dance and performance art or just good music.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is the future of communication, for better and worse. Any of us will have the same opportunity to share our insanity as Hollywood producers. Ultimately, the coolest stuff will surface...probably where we least expect it and from people who would've never else had an outlet to be heard before the web.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We look forward to connecting and collaborating with more inspired and creative people in the music world and industry. We're all about expanding our artistic family, through a handshake, or contract.
Band History:
We've known each other, through bizarre ways for many years. Our various previous bands include Birthday, Orisha, Avantgarden, Pyre, and Brother Madison. Good times.
Your influences?
Between the six of us there's a shite load of musical influences. Some of the most common comparisons we get include: Pink Floyd, Radiohead, U2, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jeff Buckley, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Fiona Apple, Led Zeppelin, The Flaming Lips, Cannibal Corpse...wait not the last one so much. Anyway, we hope you enjoy.
Favorite spot?
Anywhere with ocean and stars. London is nice too.
