MARCH 2008:

Hi fans and friends!

Thanks for those of you who came to the Retox Lounge in SF in March -- it was such a blast to share the basement with the likes of Lumaya, Say Bok Gwai, Val Mih and Golda Supernova. I was also lucky to have Antonio Cruz, his brother Miguel and Andrew Matey back me up for a couple of tracks-- we also played one of Antonio's songs, "Song From Underneath Your window." If you liked it, you should check out his stuff at myspace.com/numamusic .

Friend-plugs aside, the album is about half-way done. I know I originally was going to finish everything by this month, but with all the other things I'm doing, it's just not going to happen. I'm thinking mid-April, or May is a more plausible release date. In any case, I will let you all know! In the meanwhile, I've posted up another track called "Are You Just A Little Mad?", which will also be on the album. I realize it sounds quite different from the version I play live, but I tend to keep everything pretty bare-bones for shows -- we'll see how things go in the future...

Thanks again for all the love and support! No gigs for now, but if there is one, you'll hear it here for sure...

B'soux,

Julie

JANUARY 2008:

Hello Everyone--

I am not dead, I promise! I have been busy writing and working on some new material, besides putting on some shows around San Francisco. If you're around town on March 7th, I'm opening up for Valerie Mih (myspace.com/valeriemih) and Lumaya (myspace.com/lumaya) as part of the Asian American Music Showcase (http://monkeykingrecords.com/aams). The show starts at 8:30 PM on March 7th, at the Retox Lounge, 628 20th St at 3rd St. in San Francisco! Please stop by and say hi!!

I'm also in the process of finally finishing Album No. 5 -- "The Many Faces of Mimi Celeste LaFleur". "Mimi" and "Stick Around" will both definitely be on the album, as well as some other new (and not so new) material -- so be sure to check back for details!

Thanks again for all your support, and keep rockin'!

Peace, love and viva la rock'n'roll--

Julie

MAY 2007:

Ahoy!!!

Sorry for the quietness around here!~

I have posted acoustic versions to two new tracks: "Mimi" and "Stick Around" -- if you've been at the gigs last year, then you'll know that these tracks aren't exactly newbies, but the versions here are definitely recently recorded!

This next album has been budding for a while -- don't know if it will actually make it to audio tangibility at any point, but will definitely keep you all posted!

Thanks for all the support--I haven't given up on the muzak, I promise!

'til another track or two, or something borrowed, something new...ha! : )

cheers,

Julie

AUGUST 2006:

Hi, my name is Julie Chow, and I am a singer-songwriter who is currently based in San Francisco, California.

I have released four self-produced albums: When Desires Collide (in 2001), The Stars Shine Bright Tonight (in 2002), Momentarily Disreplaced (in 2003) and Wheel of Fortune (Narcissus & the Echo) (2004).

I occasionally songwrite with another musician called Jesse Davis. You can hear our music at http://www.soundclick.com/jessedavisandjuliechow. We've done some live shows around Davis in the Spring of 2004.

I've also collaborated on a couple tracks with neuron-nest. Surf on to his page to check out his trippy material.

Prior to 2001, Romanie Garcia and I were part of an online collaboration known as The Dream Project. Those songs can be found here.
Why this name?
I didn't want to use a pseudonym?
Do you play live?
I love performing live - it's a great rush. Hopefully, the audience gets as much a kick out of it as I do. I've played live at different venues around Davis, California and briefly while I was in high school in Singapore. I'm hoping to do some more live shows, either in San Francisco, New York, Berkeley or anywhere, depending on where I am.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it can be viewed as a good thing - it can really promote music and benefit both the industry and the artists if it's used to its advantage, rather than as a source for piracy and theft.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If I were allowed the freedom to experiment and create in the mediums that I do - and if the contracts weren't such that I would lose myself as a person, individual, human being...
Band History:
http://www.aeswf.com
Your influences?
Rufus Wainwright, Bjork, k.d. lang, Sarah McLachlan, Radiohead, to name a few...
Favorite spot?
It varies, but I'd really like to live in New York City at some point in the future!

(I guess it comes from having lived in New Jersey, China, Singapore and California...)
Equipment used:
acoustic steel string guitar, keyboards, piano
