HQAX is from Dayton, Ohio. Our style is varied. All the members have unique tastes. Our singer is noteably influenced by major pop-punk bands such as Blink 182, Goldfinger and MEST. Our guitarist draws influence from many different sources everywhere from Nirvana to Bon Jovi. Our bass player draws heavy influence from David Bowie in writing style and popular jazz and funk bassists. Our drummer is the new proud addition to our family, having played in drum corps for some time and getting influence from powerful bands such as Coheed and Cambria. Basically we mesh styles and try to come out with original, fun, meaningful music...
Why this name?
HQAX, Hoax, hqax, hoax, etc. However you spell it, it says Hoax. The Q that causes so much confusion, comes from when we made our first T-shirts DIY style. We ran out of the letter O quickly and had to improvise. It was decided that we would turn the Q's (which we had plenty of) upside down to complete the rest of the shirts. We decided we liked the way it looked and kept the deformed iron on look as our logo. Now we have made the upside-down Q the symbol of our band...
Do you play live?
We have played live a small number of times (though weekend "practices" have been know to draw a good number of people also). These have all been in Dayton thus far but we are now booking shows in Indiana in the west Lafayette area. Prospective shows will also be played in Michigan... Now that we have a solid professional demo and an extended set list with originals and our very different views on popular covers, shows will be played on a regular basis around the midwest. Our first show was probably the most 'special' because it was at a big party and the crowd was huge. Even our parents came (and drank). We really didn't know what to expect from the people who hadn't heard us yet, but the reaction was huge and opened us up to more show oppritunities immediatly. Then we all drank keg beer until we couldn't walk.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Basically, the internet is a great way to get your music to areas that are out of your reach. One band that we really admire (Tub Ring, they're the best) told us that to many people are throwing burnt CDs around and the best way to get them and others to listen to your stuff is to have it hosted online. Hopefully putting a little of our music here will point people towards our site where they can learn a lot more about us and here some of our other kinds of songs...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I think we would. I'm a very strong advocate of a good indie label like asianman records run by Mike Park. it would be great to be on a label like that, but I would not mind signing to a major label if the music we had was able to make a big enough impact that our distribution out grew the reach of smaller labels. Being promoted heavily and not having to save every penny for studio time, printing prices, and equipment would be nice too.

Your influences?
So far we have stretched the power chord into rock, funk, country, emo, punk, top 40, bar/pub rock, indie rock, and more... Okay, so we didn't do it all with power chords, but we try to keep it simple, strong, and fun...
Anything else...?
Our site is awesome. HQAX has a lot of artists inside and outside the band. We're very proud to have such a professional site that reflects who we are and where we come from. We also have a forums that is free and we encourage anyone to join. Half the forum is for band stuff like art, shows, studio news, etc. The other half is just for general discussion but its rarely very serious, though you probably should be 18 to go there sometimes.
