Red Star Radio... proudly damaging hearing since 2001.
Why this name?
It just sounds good and it intrigues... it conjures images of radio pioneers in Siberia or the signals received from distant galaxies.

Most importantly, we thought the name should not attempt to define the music. For example, if there is a band called 'Rectal Hate Succubus', you don't actually need to listen to them, in order to know what they sound like. They will sound rubbish.
Do you play live?
We are out and about around the East Midlands. It's all going splendidly.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We're not in this to get rich, we enjoy what we do and hope you do, too. As Joey 'The Lips' Fagan said, "You have to remember that the Lord owns the copyright on all songs". The internet is bringing the DIY 'flexidisc/tape/indie fanzine' culture overground, allowing the little man (and woman) to have their voice heard. If the Metallicas and Madonnas miss out on their market share, then boo-hoo.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yeah. Mugs.
Band History:
Red Star Radio is essentially the songwriting partnership of Chris Thorley and Guy Lawton, who have been playing together in R*R since 2001. The band operates a 'revolving door' policy with other musical collaborators and performers... the current line-up also features Gav Clark on drums and Mark Nenadic (aka Mr Plow) on bass.
Your influences?
Guy: Post punk and melodic anthemic stuff, with lots of layered guitars. REM. Talking Heads. Doves. The Smiths

Chris: Prog rock. Black Sabbath, Spocks Beard, Alan Parsons. And anyone I've ever played with.

Mark: Duff Beer, REO Speedwagon, All You Can Eat Buffets

Gav:
Favorite spot?
Home. In bed. But not the same bed. It's not that sort of band.
Equipment used:
Guy: Epiphone Riviera Custom, Fender Jazzmaster & Fender Telecaster Thinline guitars, Boss pedals, Fender Blues Junior or Vox AC30 amps. Ovation Celebrity acoustic and Boss AD-3 pedal

Chris: Fender Squier Fat Strat, Behringer pedals, LC15R valve amp. Crafter acoustic guitar into Behringer / Boss AD-3 pedal.

Mark: Bass, plectrum, guitar lead, amp (all borrowed/stolen)

Gav:

Anything else...?
