V.P.R. are from Washington, D.C., aka Chocolate City. The bastards in V.P.R. include Shawn "Fahker" on vocals..and beer. Shawn's previous musical ventures include the likes of None of your Business, as well as Latchkey. Jeff Berman a.k.a. Rick Flair, pounds out the burning solos on his double guitar, and sometimes plays guitar for The Boils. Dave Linehan used to sanctify the stage with his drunken style karate kicks, body slams, and bass, but has recently been replaced by bass extraordinaire Chris Suspect, who has played for area bands such as Lickity Split as well as The Suspects. Last, but not least, Geoff Knowles, a.k.a. Bender, taps the skins (oh yeah), and has been in previous DC bands such as The Muffmen, as well as United 121.
Why this name?
We just picked three letters of the alphabet at random. You can decide what V.P.R. means.
Do you play live?
We play live as often as we can. We have toured up and down the East Coast and parts of the Mid West three times this past year and we look forward to doing more. We love the road especially because you can do stuff in other towns that people from D.C. will never know about. V.P.R. has shared lots of special moments on tour. Some of the most special include the parking lot in Connecticut with the troll. The special lady friends in Little Rock, Arkansas and of course the pool party in Knoxville, Tennesee.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
While the internet is greating for letting folks hear your music it also makes people fat and lazy. I think we are one of the few bands in DC that actually passes out flyers en masse as opposed to relying on a message board. It pays off too, cause there is not as much competetion for telephone poles any more.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell yeah we would sell our souls to the Great Satan. Punk is dead. Give us your money corporate America!
Band History:
For approximately two years, the line-up of V.P.R. has consisted of many interesting people and gifted musicians. Many of Washington DC's most talented players have at some point played for V.P.R. including performers of United 121, BHG, Iron Cross, Bar Fight, and Wake Up Cold. Though the various line-up changes have helped us to establish the musical style we presently perform, V.P.R. and the music we play today is a result of our diverse musical influences blended with the combined effort of the four-piece band of punk rock retards that currently bless the stage today!
Your influences?
Musically, V.P.R. is influenced by Sick Of It All, Bad Brains, Murphy's Law, The Boils, The Suspects and most D.C. hardcore bands. Philisophically, V.P.R. is influenced by Ween and the (old) Butthole Surfers.
Favorite spot?
As a band, our favorite spot right now is Ivey's in Knoxville, Tenn. But that could change at any time, especially since that club shut down.
Equipment used:
Gibson guitars, Music Man basses, Ludwig Drums, Ampeg and Marshall amps and cabinets.
Anything else...?
We love you!
