Kicking Water was a great alternative rock band in the late Nineties through the new Millenium (1997 - 2001). They put out 2 full length CDs and two EPs in that time. Not bad for an independant act! Plus, they have almost another CD's worth of material they never recorded that is sitting on demo tapes and CDs waiting to be re-discovered.
Why this name?
We sat for almost three hours trying to decide on one! We used another name for months, but it didn't fit us, so we racked our brains until it was staring at us dead in the face. In the end it was the title of one of Carey's songs that ended up being our name. It's perfect too; trying to control the uncontrollable, but you can't. When you kick water, it goes everywhere . . . which is what we try to do with the music. Always creating, always growing . . .
Do you play live?
Not presently. We've moved on to other projects, but don't completely rule out the idea of performing again.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changes the music industry in that now, a local band can get it's music out to so many more people. The hinderance is that there are so many other bands doing it that you have to be really networking to get noticed. It's not much different than before, just gives pretty much any band a chance to be heard around the world.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Make us an offer . . . we'll come out of hiding!
Band History:
It's raw and polished, dissonant and beautiful, biting and melodic, and distinctly indistinct. It's called Kicking Water. Four polar opposites that collide, creating a sonic substance as unique as the four individuals themselves.
The group was motivated by a passion for music and a strong aversion to their day jobs. Relying on music for their sanity, Kicking Water spent many waking (and sometimes un-awaking) hours, practicing, performing, and promoting their art. Kicking Water gained exposure through air play on college, independent, and corporate radio stations. The band also attained international exposure through advertising and distribution on the internet. Performing both electric and acoustic, this four-piece was able to play everywhere from major concert venues to intimate coffee houses. All they needed was a place to stand and a person to listen.

Bed. You can do almost anything in a bed!
Anything else...?
Music is a powerful thing. It can make you experience just about any emotion; it can make you see things differently; it can awaken you if you let it.
