Decidedly hard edged rock turned slightly metal style, Automatic Animal from Santa Cruz, California is vocalist Mat Fitzsimmons, drummer Steve Ilse, lead guitarist Mike Anderson, bassist Trevor Stewart and rhythm guitarist Buck Wylee.
Why this name?
Out of a desperate need to express who we are.
Do you play live?
Automatic Animal lives for the live show. Based in the Central Coast of California, A.A. has enjoyed several tours from Washington State to Arizona. Tacoma, Washington being one of our favorite stops.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Independent bands need the internet to connect with new fans, so the access is a change.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe a minor label or a junior label or a label that someone cool that we meet owns.
Band History:
Steve and Mike are cousins and have rocked out together for most of their lives and remain the central force of the band. Mat joined early in as the singer and Wylee helped out for years as the psuedo road manager. For a decade plus the band toured under the name HERBERT and released several disks. Trevor joined more recently and Wylee stepped in on rythm guitar.
Your influences?
Tool , Santana , Led Zeppelin , Black Sabbath , Meshugga , Nirvana , Danzig , Elvin Jones , Jimi Hendrix , A Perfect Circle , Vincent's Ear . Also influenced by most old school hard rock acts, accomplised jazz musicians and early punk.
Favorite spot?
Portland, Oregon. Anywhere on the road is all good.
