Almost Nameless = SoCo & Illa. Two college guys from University of Florida rappin' about what they've experienced throughout their 5 years there and throughout their lives. Its just positive music wit some ill beats. Tight lyrical content flowin' on smooth instrumentals. Check out www.soundclick.com/socoillaproductions to listen to some tight instrumentals. Also, be sure to check out www.freewebs.com/almostnameless for more info.
Why this name?
Illa: We're humble...we aren't striving to be famous. We just write to speak our thoughts and relieve some stress. And hopefully in the process be able to relate to some of our listeners.
SoCo: It's all about sticking to real issues people our age are feeling, well, at least some...you won't be hearing us rhymin' about rims and platinum--we can't even afford to rock silver, player.

Do you play live?
I: We freestyle at parties and what not...One day we aspire to do college tours....haha...thats our dream...our Plan C if this transition from college to the real world doesn't work out..haha.
S: That, or we'll blow up in Belgium. I'll be straight if they pay us in waffles. Really, though, we really want to collaborate with other cats that have potential talent, be it singing, producing, whatever, those people who are all about true hip hop and don't really have an outlet.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I: It allows the unsigned artists to get exposure quick. Allows a lot of BOOTLEGGING...
S: Yeah, which is BAD. But, really for us, it don't matter, as long as we can get our music out, get our messages out, cause we ain't gettin paid anyways...yet...and Soundclick helps us do this.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I: Sure. WE'RE BROKE & in DEBT.
S: Yeah, get us a REAL studio, label heads! And some rent money.

Band History:
Soco & Illa have been collaborating since the Fall of 2003, but have been hip hop heads since the days of the Native Tongues. The two have known each other since 2000 and met at the University of Florida through the Filipino Student Association. They were also part of the defunct "FliPmodE" crew ('99-'01?). Taking turns between "producing" on the laptop and spitting on the mic, Almost Nameless strive to be a pebble in the shoe of mainstream/whack-lyric/commercial hip hop with their brand of meaningful, yet head-nodding lyrical content over smooth instrumentals.
Your influences?
A Tribe Called Quest, Little Brother, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Blackalicious, De La Soul, J-Live, Outkast, The Roots, Slum Village, Jurassic 5, Gangstarr.
Favorite spot?
I: Tampa, FL [Gainesville has its moments too I guess]
S: Yeah, Tampa, hands down.
S: Yeah, Tampa, hands down.
Equipment used:
I: A computer & a mic.
S: And a bathroom with good acoustics.

Anything else...?
Big ups to everyone who helped us critique our sheeeeeet--we're still not completely done with our tracks, it's a work in progress, but everything should be complete by the end of this week and we'll have some solo joints out as well. Keep listenin' and keep reppin' HIP HOP! 1.
