Formed in October 2000.
Why this name?
88 miles per hour is the speed that the delorean in the "Back to the Future" movies has to go to time travel. It sort of represents that you have to do something to make a difference in your life or in someone else's life.
Do you play live?
We play live anywhere we can, right now mostly mid-Michigan. We love playing live, it's the most amazing part of being in a band. One time our bass player Derek went to swing his bass around but the strap lock decided to rip out of the guitar so his bass flew across the stage and slammed on the ground, it was pretty funny.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think that mp3 sites that allow viewers to download or play music for free makes people want to listen to music more. A lot of kids don't have any money or don't want to deal w/ credit cards online just to hear music. As a band we know that
if someone's can get your music for free that you have more of a chance of getting your name out.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would depend on our relationship w/ the people
and if we like what the label has done in the past. Of course we'd want to be on a major label,
but we wouldn't want to become robots or anything,
but i don't think that that would be a huge issue
because I see a lot of indie bands signing to major labels and it helps more people hear them. So I don't know...
Band History:
Emerging from the barns of Pigeon, 88 miles per hour has one mission: find out what the
matrix is. Formed in October 2000 to play the Laker High School battle of the bands,
88 miles per hour was composed of 2 sets of brothers and a friend. After a few shows
before the battle of the bands, the boys realized that this band thing was pretty cool.
They record a 2 song demo and say “that’s pretty cool”. Then in June 2001, Ryan steps
up to lead vocals and the band records a 5 song demo. After a number of shows, the
band ventures on a full length and finally completes “For the Better” and it is released
July 2003. Working on a new EP and with the help of everyone around them, maybe
they will just find out what the matrix is.

(oh yeah, we already know what the matrix is...oh well it sounded cool)
(no it didn’t)
Your influences?
My father, bands like MxPx, Slick Shoes, Blink 182, Craig's Brother, The Offspring, Saves the Day, Taking Back Sunday, and a lot of other ones.
Favorite spot?
Ummm, i've only been so many places. But I like my bed a lot. Or my grandparents house in Florida...
