Why this name?
The band name really just came from a brainstorm between my friend Cameron and I. We were on facebook chat and I asked him, "Cameron, what should I name my solo project?" First he went through some names just to piss me off a little bit but then he threw out "Shodub" to me. Instantly...I knew that this was the name. It is the letters of my last name reversed (except for the S and H). It also sounds like the word "shogun" a little bit and Cameron and I thought that that was freaking metal.
Do you play live?
For Shodub...no. It is currently just my side project. However, I do play in a metal band called Beneath the Sovereign. We play live every now and then and I absolutely love playing in front of people. Especially since my songs focus on the breakdown section....people tend to get hurt during my songs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is both good and bad for the music industry. It's good because the music can be transmitted to all the corners of the earth that have internet. The bad side is that people tend to pirate music and also, mp3 could possibly make the CD a thing of the past. That's not a good thing...I like buying CDs! The artwork and the booklets that come with them add so much more to the music. But overall, the Internet is a good step forward for the music industry.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably not, at least for the time being. This is just a hobby and Im inspired by Keith Merrow and I intend to make all of my music that I post on here free. However, I might release an album which will probably be free or by donation.
Band History:
There is really no history to be honest. The band all started with one of the unfinished songs I had lying around my tab folder. I already had the recording gear and I decided, "What the hell...I might as well give this a shot!" So that's how it started. I produce everything myself and I play all of the non-software instruments.
Your influences?
My main influences are Trivium, Keith Merrow, John Petrucci, Behemoth, and Children of Bodom. I like a more eclectic type of metal so my music tends to be a mash up of blast beat sections, harmoizing sections, breakdowns, and shred solos.
Favorite spot?
Good old Baltimore, Maryland!
