The musical world has yet to bear witness to a force as enigmatic as KHASM! Spawned from the womb of the Earth mother, the group’s music does contain elements familiar to fans of the new waves of European Gothic & Black Metal(Cradle of Filth, My Dying Bride, Moonspell, Theatre of Tragedy), traditional heavy metal(Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate) and Andrew Lloyd Weber – but there simply is no contemporary underground artist performing hard-edged rock that compares to Khasm! And now the sales figures have finally begun to reflect this.
Bland, boring 90’s music has run its course! Blessed be the new wave! “Trendy human blood is Khasm wine”!
Bland, boring 90’s music has run its course! Blessed be the new wave! “Trendy human blood is Khasm wine”!
Why this name?
Perhaps there was a story behind this at one time, but it has since eluded us. It has come to our attention that Khasm is Arabic for "enemy". Coincidence???
Do you play live?
Khasm plays live as often as possible, wherever they are not protested against or turned away.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The mp3 and the internet have revolutioned the underground. To us this is simply a better, faster version of tape trading, and much easier for bands when you are dealing with no budget. For metal bands, airplay & press are virtually non-existant(sometimes even inside of the metal circles), so this is even more important.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
There is absolutely NO reason to sign a band like Khasm, and expect them to change to fit a corporate mold. IF a Major label is willing to commit to a contractual agreement under the band's terms, then so be it - but let's be brutally honest here: how often has this happened in the last 10-15 years???
Band History:
Ever since earning an honorable mention from the New Haven Advocate in 1997 for “Best Logo”(it has since been retired…), the band has gone on to impale lasting impressions on concert goers at legendary venues such as Toad’s Place (New Haven, CT),CBGB, & the US Cellular Arena(Milwaukee, WI); along with performing alongside international acts such as Testament, King’s X, Crowbar, and Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Ozbourne). Although Khasm’s theatrical presentation is what initially seizes control of your attention, the music clearly reigns here.
Unconventional, yet accessible arrangements and melodies serve to mesmerize the audience, and once again the numbers don’t lie. Khasm have previously charted with 3 songs on MP3.com’s worldwide Gothic Metal charts with:
· “And Thus Put Out the Light…” peaking at #19
· The majestic 8.5 minute epic “Awaiting the Silence” peaking at # 69
· The heartfelt fan-favorite instrumental anti-anthem “Burning in Agony” peaking at # 4!
· The newest single, “Mother”(from the latest CD, “Dancing ‘round the Circle’s End”) has already broken the mp3.com top-20 several times!
· In late April of 2002, Khasm seized the top-4 positions of the MP3.COM ‘Gothic Metal’ charts for the Connecticut region. Simultaneously, on the overall metal charts it had been discovered that 2 Khasm songs (“…And Thus Put Out the Light”, and “Mother”) had surpassed a certain single belonging to CT’s largest-selling hard-rock/metal act; yet it should be pointed out that Khasm did not have that band’s benefit of mass commercial and college radio airplay…..
Dual gender vocals have long been a favorite in the European market (not in the USA until recently, and certainly NOT in CT), and Khasm have once again aspired to excellence by incorporating this element into their compositions; featuring the songwriting/vocal team of Elizabeth the Muse (keyboards) and Jason the Overlord (guitar). Backed by one of the East Coast’s most dynamic, articulate rhythm sections(Michael the Heretic and Keith the Wretched) on the East Coast never serves as a drawback either!
· At the 2000 Milwaukee Metal Fest, Khasm attracted the attention of Ann Boelyn (singer of Hellion and head of New Renaissance Records). ‘Pretty impressive for a band that didn’t play!
· At Metal Meltdown in New Jersey (April, 2001) & Milwaukee Metal Fest XV (Aug., 2001) alongside Cathedral, Flotsam & Jetsam, Napalm Death, Shadows Fall, Opeth, Amorphis, Primal Fear, Jag Panzer, Anathema, Gorgoroth, Monstrosity, Einherer, Amon Amarth & Rain Fell Within; KHASM continued to go about their usual business of turning heads – which drew high praise from event staff, concert goers, Transitmag ‘Zine(Switzerland) and event sponsor Snakenet metal radio.
· Look for Khasm on the compilation CD “Ferocity (B-side)” being put out by the “Gods of Metal” radio station (MP3.com). The song “Mother” is featured. Khasm have also been featured on “Darkside of the PIT”(2001); a television show which airs in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
· In Jan. of 2002, Khasm bassist Keith the Wretched was inducted into the artist gallery at Spectorbass.com. Keith is on the same page as Rex Brown(Pantera) as well as the bassists from Saliva, Tantric, Nickelback, Alice Cooper, and Bruce Springsteen.
· Khasm invaded the top-10 metal charts on ArtistLaunch.com in June of 2002. Following this, the band were selected as one of that sites featured artists in July of 2002!

Your influences?
There are more influences in Khasm than a human being would care to hear about, and many terms and labels have been applied, ranging from "Metal Stringendo" to "Symphonic, Theatrical, Poetic Metal" to "Neo-Gothic Metal" to "Sympathetic Thrash Metal" to "An orgasm and an apocalypse occuring simultaneously". As always, perspective will vary.
