Our band name's is xavi. Our band consists of myself, Xavier Calvera and Susi McRoberts. We share vocals and guitars. I am the songwriter and Susy also plays keys and/or bass when we play live.
Why this name?
Xavi are the first four latters of my first name, Xavier Calvera.
Do you play live?
We play live every week. Lord Tiger is our label and we play at a showcase there every Saturday night.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
There are more opportunities now for people to hear new music. Also more chances for emerging acts.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We are happy at Lord Tiger.
Band History:
I've been writing songs forever, it seems. I made a solo album in '98, Dragon Masters, and a collaboration "for all times," with my high school buddy and old bandmate Roy Tooth in 2000. In 2001 Susi and I recorder our CD, "Look My Way" under the name Capitan Sunshine. In 2004 we released "The Lord Tiger Sessions" and "Little Hope" is in the works for late 2006 early 2007.
Your influences?
I was born in Cuba but came to the US when I was 14. I grew up here playing rock'n'roll. Think of Lennon McCartney with a Cuban accent!
Favorite spot?
The earth is my home and I love LA!
Equipment used:
Digital performer for recording.
Anything else...?
A 14-year-old boy left home with only the clothes on his back and came to a foreign land. Xavier Calvera moved to the United States to escape the repressive regime of Fidel Castro. He brought a unique understanding of music with him.

In Cuba, music is part of a person's identity. It permeates society and is an essential part of daily life. People dance in the streets and play rhythms on trash can lids, buckets or whatever is available.
Steeped in this musical culture, Xavi came to America and absorbed rock 'n' roll like a hungry sea sponge. He learmed to speak and write English better than many who were born here.

The result is a unique brand of pop music: melody, rhythm and expressive lyrics that clearly convey emotion and stimulate the imagination.
Xavi has been writing and recording his songs, in both English and Spanish, crafting musicals and perfecting his talents with such notables as Peter Luboff.
