The most musical mayhem ever created by a girl and a boy. Comprised of Greg and Kyrsten Magnuson, this dynamic duo switches off on drums and guitar all while maintaining beautifully intricate harmonies. Combining the sounds of Death From Above 1979, The Smiths, Black Sabbath, and Human League, Magnuson brings a unique blend of progressive rock, classic metal, and 80’s alt rock to the music scene. Since 2009, this power-duo has started taking the world by storm, including playing some of the best clubs in Los Angeles. Their shows at The Troubadour, Viper Room, Key Club, Silverlake Lounge and their recent House of Blues residency has generated buzz galore and energized their fan base. Their latest LP "Crash of Cassini", released in July of 2011, shows Magnuson’s “use of unusual and clever chord progressions” and has solidified them as “one of the most exciting acts of this year”. Celebrating their recent win of the monthly Live Nation In-House Artist competition, Magnuson hit the road in October 2011 with Dutch band Death Letters and showed the western US exactly what they do best, putting on an unbelievable show and having a blast doing it. Some may wonder, after listening to their recorded music if these two can pull this stuff off live. Fact is, they not only pull it off, they do it with such passion, its hard to imagine it live any other way. Listen to the songs and watch the live video, you won't be disappointed.
Why this name?
The band originally started with Greg Magnuson writing songs and playing acoustically. As the band formed the name Magnuson stuck. It has a certain ring to it, don't you think?
Do you play live?
We try to play out weekly. We have played at many of the venues located in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Mp3's have changed music history by allowing local bands to get their music heard worldwide with little to no cost. Mp3's have also brought the music industry's revenue down with illegal sharing...I could go on for days.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Depends on the deal. ;)
Band History:
Magnuson came into existence in San Diego when front man Greg Magnuson, a well respected bass player who has played live in local bands, touring bands, and in studio sessions, started to take his songwriting more seriously. He chose to veer away from the more technical prog-rock style he played on bass and to pursue the straight forward melodic, guitar-driven British pop sound he had grown up on. He started playing acoustic shows but knew the sound he longed for needed others to be fully realized. After experimenting with various line-ups, he returned to sing and play drums and guitar accompanied by Kyrsten Magnuson, who added her stylized guitar work and backing vocals and passion for drumming.
