Unica is my name, " Unique " well need I say?!! I'm unique in every ways. Its sipmle, sounds nice and its me.
Do you play live?
I perform alot, mostly in the New york Tri-state area and where else possible. When people stares at me on stage as if they are suprise I can rip the mic.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, if it wasn't for the intertnet you wouldn't be able to see this right now.! Its a wonderful revolution, its freedom for all musicians and a gift for music lovers.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
The Indie label I'm dealing with is good, as long as they can do the thing I'm cool with and sometime its better cuz its close family.. My product will still be in store by label via a major label... I would sign with a major if I need to.
Band History:
Prezidency Records.
Unica: Bio
“ Unique” named Unica Ashley was born in Nyack, NY on the 24th day of September, at the age of five I migrates from location to location when my parents got divorced and finally call New Jersey home. Twenty something, I still remember when I hummed the Chords “ do-re-me-fa-so-la-ti-do” to my dad who sung it to me when I was about 6 months old. A Rockland county jail house visit to my Uncle brought smiles to inmates and guards when I jumped on a table started singing “ I want to dance with you” by Whitney Houston”, I felt good and knew I wanted to sing. “ Music brings joy and painless to people”. Going to the studio at an early age with my dad, who is a musician himself exposed me more to music, and my passion for the art grew stronger and stronger. Mom worked three jobs to make ends meet and grandma was the way I was going to find out what the world has to offer. Grandma got diagnosed with MS, and my favorite uncle began guiding me. It wasn’t smooth for me growing up materialistically, but I had the greatest and definitely the most priceless asset in my life, I was loved and cared for. ‘ Funny how one can have a ball with leftovers “ July 5th a day after everyone blast their Firecrackers, me and the family would take a walk through the park looking and collecting half burned fuse crackers to lit up, We had the most unusual laugh doing that because it was a “ Unique” situation. Sadly and eventually all great things comes to end, favorite uncle past away in 1998. I didn’t have many friends and going to different schools seem like an endless nightmare, but I was determine not to give up on life. Whenever and wherever I had the chance to crab the MIC, people would label me and started referring to me as “ da girl who can sing”. From the church choirs, talent shows to funeral ceremonies I sung my heart out the hardest and the best way I knew. Music is my fulfillment, in 1995 I was singing with a group and was known as the first lady, from mix tape to mix tape people was showing me love, We departed in the late 90s. My voice is pure-soul, my personality is one of a kind and my talent is a gift from above. A caring human being the world is blessed to have. I’m all grown up and my Management is more than happy to share my world with you. A Dream turned into reality. “ I thank the lord for the opportunity to act and speak for others in a passive way that’s not forbidden. My love is ya luv. Peace, the globe is you and I, and I’m glad to share it with you through music.
