ALL of the compositions you hear here start with one simple truth - without God, I could do nothing but with HIM, all things are possible! Each and every effort is a serenade to Him, as I owe Him every song.
Over the years, I've learned much about song composition and have always been willing to push the boundaries of sound. I was trained as a musician and recording engineer as a child, starting to put together melodies when I was only 7 years old. Since then, I've learned to read sheet music, then leave sheet music to write by ear, then learn to write what was in my heart to say. These songs are the culmination of those ventures. Each new song is a lesson in itself as I am a never ending student of music, sound and the new and emerging recording processes. When you listen, please keep in mind you are ease dropping on my intimate conversations with God. I totally don't mind this or else the songs wouldn't be here. In my conversations though, they are sometimes upbeat, sometimes somber. Most times our conversations are lively, but NEVER boring! In all, I share this so that you may enjoy the music, but more as a reminder to bring your all (and your best) to God (He's listening).
Why this name?
Grant is my middle name. I sometimes use my middle name in quick situations (like at fast food places and what not). Over time, the "Mister" part of it was added (for distinction). Didn't realize that Mr Grant was going to stick (I thought I had a "more cool" Hollywood name picked out). ;-)
Do you play live?
Used to love playing live, but don't do that anymore. Don't have the time nor resources to consistently do it.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's given semi-pro and amateur musicians and writers a voice.
Without internet sites like this one, we might not have an opportunity at a world stage. With all of the "corporations" taking up so much space, it seemed impossible only a few years ago. The internet brings the music world (and it's audience) down to a level playing field.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe. I like musical exploration and I think that major labels want something that can be turned into a formula and sold as a commodity. If we could meet somewhere in the middle, I would be all for it.
Band History:
Living Waters Praise Team
Perfekt Blend (with Chuck Finlayson)
Your influences?
They are all over the place. From Quincy Jones to Berlin, Thomas Dolby to Herbie Hancock.
I could name hundreds that influenced me over the years, but I got many of my favorites during the late 70s and early 80s.
Favorite spot?
Maui. It was so beautiful there. It changed the way I viewed music, so I would have to say it's my favorite place. My 2nd favorite place is the beach (any clean beach..LOL). I love the water crashing and the breeze blowing. It reminds me of peace and tranquility.
Equipment used:
Yamaha Motif ES, Sonar 8.5.3, plug ins galore, Dimension Pro, Rapture, MOTU Symphonic Instrument, Korg legacy Collection (did I miss anything???)
Anything else...?
Music often leaves an impression. Love it or hate it - it's still leaving an impression.
Hopefully, my music has left a positive impression on you today. If you've tapped your foot, bobbed your head or even just smiled I've done my job. If you stop by tomorrow, I'll see if I can do it again:) ...
