Max the DorkMax the Dork is the establishment-breaking punk band from South Jersey. With an old-school sound and a new-school attitude, Max the Dork’s primary purpose is to return Punk to its roots in Anarchic, anti-politic, snide cynicism, and to do it without excluding anyone who wants to jump in the pit.
Why this name?
There's a character in the 1996 movie Broken Arrow named Max. The band is named after him. (The entire scene that Max is in is on our third full-length EP, Crapital Punishment)
Do you play live?
We play live frequently around the South Jersey and Philadelphia region. I'd have to say that our favorite place to play is Brenner's Brew in Bridgeton, NJ. It's our home away from home. It's the first place we played as a band and it's the place we've played the most. It's a cool little place with such a great atmosphere. Plus, Barbara Brenner is HAWT.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the Internet gives local bands a chance at world-wide exposure. Without the Internet we're just a local band with local fans, but with the Internet, we've got fans all over the world - in the UK and Ireland, in Iceland, in Canada, all across the US, even Poland. There's no way we get that kind of exposure without the Internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Well, I'd have to say yes. If I could quit my job and play music for a living, that would be the ultimate. Plus, being signed to a major label means having the opportunity to do more, in the studio, playing live, and it would also give me more time to write more music.
Band History:
Founded in 1995 by guitarist, bassist, vocalist and drummer Bret Walker, Max the Dork was a solo act for seven years, although Bret always maintained that Max the Dork was, in fact, a band, regardless of the number of members.

In late 2002, during the Crapital Punishment/Cunning Linguist tour, Bret met up with drummer Hitman Tony and the band became a band in the dictionary sense of the word. Tony brought bassist Justin Peter Parker on board, and the band was complete at last.

We've released two studio LPs and an EP since 2001, and our third full-length LP is due out December 9th, 2003. We've also got a fourth LP in the works, another EP, a live album, and who knows what else.
Your influences?
Green Day is probably our greatest influence. It was after hearing Dookie and Insomniac that I decided to start writing songs and wrote what later became our first two albums (I Feel Like Shit and No Thanks, I'm Driving).

Other influences include (but are not restricted to): Dead Kennedies, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, MC5, Circle Jerks, Fear, Black Flag, Dead Milkmen, and Beru Revue.
Favorite spot?
Philadelphia, PA. Absolutely my favorite city anywhere. Although Dublin, Ireland runs a close second.
Equipment used:
Peavey, Gibson, and Fernandes guitars; Squire bass guitars; Yorkville bass amps; Crate amps; Rogue PA; Pacific Drums; Sabian cymbals; Ernie Ball strings (guitar); Dean Markley strings (bass); Nady microphones
Anything else...?
For us, punk rock is not about relationship issues. It's about politics, rebellion, anger and snide cynicism. It's about trying to buck the establishment as loudly as we can. And it's about cheese. A lot of easy cheese from the can.
