Advent Wrath (Formerly Self Infliction) is a band from Chicago. Our very mixed influences make up what the band is today. We can write anything from the heaviest of metal to the mellowest of mellow.
Do you play live?
We play most of our shows in the Chicagoland area. We love playing shows, regardless of where we play.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet spreads unsigned and unheard bands, of any genre, across the nation to others who appreciate music and not just the crap on MTV. It also allows a simple and relatively inexpensive way to get the name out there as it where. It also allows for a lot of sh*** music to get out there along with the good.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Who wouldn't? What better way to love what you're doing then by showing it to a wider audience with a label backing you up. The only thing we disagree on is changing our style to fit "mainstream" audiences. If the people don't like the music, they don't have to listen to it.
Band History:
The band started in late November of 2001 with Jose Sanchez and Mike Fron. Jose found bassist and good friend, Juan Colazo and he soon joined the band. In December, Mike found drummer Sky Opila and Self Infliction was born. The summer of 2002 was Self Infliction's rise and shine to write music, September was their debute. Juan left the band to proceed with the US Marines short after. Marty Susmaras was brought in to the band as a temporary replacement. His short stay with the band gave Self Infliction time to find their next bassist, Bill Fay. Amazed by Bill's incredible slap-and-pop bass style, Self Infliction was a new band with a new sound. Personal indifferences and tension in the band resulted in Mike quitting the band in March of 2003. As of November 2003, the band has changed their name to Advent Wrath but the sound has not changed one bit.
Your influences?
We try to create our own sound, and as a band we try not to get pigeon-holed with one particular sound or associated with one particular band. All four members have lots of different influences from old school metal to hardcore and so on. But we overlap with bands like Killswitch Engage, Mudvayne, Chimaira, etc.
